suspension

Hi Everyone, you were lost and I found you. Great to see comeing together
Suspension
I Have tuned my 08 to the common ideas on this board and of the old board changeing dampening & compresion settings etc, all on stock original bike, and found that they made the bike preform better, many thanks to all for input.

A friend has purchased an 08 and has asked me to do the same ajustments to his. The problem is he is about 80lbs heavier he also rides 2 up alot . Weight about 240-250lbs

Our rideing styles are similar and we ride in the same areas . Not looking for a track bike here just a bike to ride on open country roads etc . that will hold up in some of the rougher roads arround

I will do all screw in screw out settings and maybe an extra click here and there for the weight ,But should I ajust up the rear coil tension on the rear shock to carry the extra weight." Nobody seems to go there "
I was thinking of increaseing tension about 6mm - 1/4 ins or so

Has anyone been down this road before,
Winter is comeing it will soon be time to ride, any help would be great

Thanks

That don't sound bad...try it and see what happens, then you can go from there.

the sad truth is that the stock suspension is not going to cooperate with your hefty friend's weight. especially not going two up. i have the same trouble (245lbs no gear!). i've been talking with different suspension companies and the best deal is to get the forks and shock revalved and resprung. here's an email i got this past week from traxxion...

Mike,

Sorry for the delay. I'm still trying to get caught up from working down in
Daytona for 10 days.

We can rebuild and re-spring your OEM shock or have a new Penske shock built
for you. To rebuild, revalve, re-spring the OEM shock is $300.
If you would like to have a fully adjustable Penske built we can do that as
well. The 8983 Double from Penske gives you ride height, preload, rebound,
and high speed compression adjustments. We will set the shock up with the
correct spring and baseline settings so it is ready to ride. The shock is
normally $875 but we are running a special for $788 right now.
Let me know how I can help.
Thanks!

Mike

Thanks for the comments , as the bike is brand new I'll just do what I can with stock units and see how that goes.

Looks like your heading in the right direction reevesmreeves hope it all works out for you. If you go ahead and do the mod it would be good to hear how you went and to pass on the info.

Hope it works out and you get good results and good value for money.

Many thanks
