USB cable routing
12/27/21 7:54 PM

Greetings everyone. New to the forum and ride a 2018 ZX14R SE. Forgive me if this has been covered but I used the search feature and didn't see what I was looking for. For those that are using a quad Lock or some similar type of phone mount on their 14, I'm wondering if someone would share with me the best method / route they have found for running a USB cable from my USB plug in in the battery box up to the front where my quad lock is mounted at the fork stem? Thanks!

Remove seat, and fuel tank. Is there a back cover to the battery box on the Gen2? There is on the Gen1. Remove rear battery box cover permanently and run wires over the airbox, under the fuel tank, under the fuel tank fairing and to the steering pivot area. I think the rear battery box cover had an opening in it that wires could easily pass through if you don't want to remove the cover permanently.

Hook up a piggy battery charger plug off the battery. This way you buy the extension male/female end to plug into the battery's charger hookup. Add a fuse to the hot side wire, then to a cig lighter. The ground goes to the side of the cig lighter. Where if you find the ideal spot and can't mount without some wild bracket setup, use goop glue and mount the cig socket there with glue.

Edit:
I have the cig lighter style USB that goes into the generic cig lighter. That's why I thought the generic cig lighter is one option. Then there is a USB style that plugs into the generic battery charger plug off the battery.

You can get self adhesive cable tie anchors at most harware stores. They're little squares with slots to run a zip tie through. Use the small 4" zip ties, those definitely will fit without touching under the tank. I stuck a couple zip tie anchors on the top of my airbox and loosely zip tied the wires I had routed there. If they don't stick, a little dob of black RTV will make them stay in place. I never had a problem with the cable tie anchors sticking to the frame but they seem to let go on plastic parts.

Zip blocks/ties = Added weight. Goop sticks to anything sans, zippy the falls off me surface? Doubt it. Besides, rub the glue off the block left? As opposed to pull the goop off, no line marks polishing out at one area?

Signed,
Not paid to promote goop glue..., but didn't I goof on you with the drilling of my sight window, called out your name?

Walked every part of that bike with goop holding shit in place... any place I want. Don't mind us, schor. Here is the goof on Rook adding hardware to lighten the bike.

remove right side fairing. Run cable from battery along with factory harness to
the front.

Extra wiring to right of USB plug is for my heated gloves.

Ah, I see. I cut and pasted the next video, not mine. I'm an anti zip-tie kind of guy.
