Out for a ride and Opps
03/24/09 3:47 PM

I was out riding with my Daughter. we were ricky racing a little . headed south out of Austin . There was a strech of road in a valley about 4miles long .We took off and I was just passing here when a new mustang somethig or other was playing by being on our butts .
I pulled over into her lane (way in front of her ) the stang wanted to play and we were playing about 135 by speedo when coming towards the last mile of valley. I seen the police car and shut it down . we passed well over 120 miles a hour and but I was slowing down so he pulled out .I slowed to the 60 mph and watched the police man ride by point ing a finger in a angry way at me and he kept going . I watched him and the stang float over the hill and I took the first left to leave in another direction and never seen him again . that would have been a stiff fine

not to be hater, how can you ride with your daughter at that speed? I'll give sh%%^ if I'm by myself, though riding with my kids or wife is a NO NO in my book

No you misunderstand both my Daughter and I have each done track days and she was riding her own bike I wont do that with someone on the back . She was also far enough behind that she would not know what speed we were going . She rides her own ninja and she is learning but will not do the speeds I do as she agrees she needs a few more years . I also take as few risks as as possible. Its a known road lots of free space on each side of road an little to no driveways along it . Its known for a straight shot of speed by many not just a few motorcycles. Its not safe speeds but then anything over the speed limit is wacked by most standards. That strech is about as safe as you can get without being on a track or closed road but the police know it also and you pays your money and takes your chances. How many on this board can say they havnt been over 100 which is way over the speed limit on any road I have ever been on .

Any time I go for a ride and don't get over 100, I feel like it's not a real ride...

100 every time I hit the open highway. It's just not that big a deal any more.

no problems juicey its all good and after you pointed it out it did look like thekiddo was on back. And I also wouldnt think that was good either . Only bad thing is she is getting the bug for touring and for speed . I have created a monster but she is taking classes and love the track so she has a chance .
I am one of those older farts that cant tuck all the way down behind the screen but then the ZX doesnt seem to mind LOL
lets face it hese bikes are not built to be ridden all the way from coast to coast its just I thikn they can. I rode the St1300 today and the Zx14 made me like the ST even more , Just like the ST makes me like what the ZX can do even mor e. If I had more money and garage I would have 5 or 6 bikes . But that could get costly

I am almost ashamed to say I have hit *** on the GPS on my 14.
It was a bit scary at how fast everything comes rushing at you.

See I am so ashamed, I can't even post the number.

This thing goes fast so easy it's rediculous! 100 or 110 is nothing but a blip of the throttle. :)
But I have to admit that what has scared me before was seeing everything rushing at you - even things that normally seem far away...

^^+1 You do 150 and you will be driving at the vehicles you approach from behind like you were doing 70 - 80 mph at the back of a parked car. Decell doesn't slow me down as fast as I woulda guessed at that speed. Leave plenty of slow down room. I never pass at that speed. That's begging for a law abiding motorist to call the cops on you if they don't suddenly swerve over and kill you first.

I hate swooping up on slow moving traffic, it places you out of the defensive box, and the safety bubble (car length front back side side moving with traffic). Most cagers here in Igloo nation, rarely look for a bike. All I see when I approach is a hand holding a cell phone to a face, or some operator texting with one arm on the wheel (usually the arm that prevents them from checking the blind spot before they eat you).

I do not want to sound preachy or grampaish, so please don't take this as judgement, just opinion, but when I stretch out and drop a leg, it's usually when the roads are clear of commuters. Early morn weekends or late late nights...Then again when your numbers up, there is no safe time and place, just minimized risk.

Cheers peeps be safe out there hommies...

Wman
