Gen 2 carbon fiber??
11/24/23 2:32 PM

Does anyone know a reputable source for carbon fiber body panels and related components? If anyone has some and would be willing to share pictures? It's for a 2015 drag bike only, need to put it on a diet as I'm still trying to get into the 7's and it's 500lbs. +/- 5 as far as I know though I'm going to scale it tomorrow. It's been 8.035@173.02 but though it looks so close it's so far away...

Porky pig went on the scales yesterday and a 4 scale average was 514.7 lbs! Turbo system with liquid to air intercooler adds a lot of weight. I've weighed the existing panels I'm contemplating on replacing and they total 15.25 lbs. I'm waiting on a reply from Motocomposites.com for their panel weights which would total $2400 for what I'm looking at.

I got the CF front fender and side grills from Motocomposites. Fit and finish on both are great.

I can't quite remember BUT...did I ask what the weight of CF is vs plastic? If you have done all you can to reduce weight, my hat's off to you for going with CF body panels but my guess is you'll lose two pounds at best. Hey, I'm not casting derision on anyone for spending money to drop weight. I will be the first in line to oooo and awww at your CF but realistically, buy yourself a damn turbo. I'll ooo and awww all the more and I don't even care if you do over 200 mph with it or not. I'm big on bragging rights. If you ever need to prove yourself, you're all set.

and I DO mean I will respect that 2 pound weight loss and I'll love the money you spent on it but please consider a turbo first.

Hey Rook, It's turboed and intercooled which is the cause of the excessive weight. I've basically talked myself out of the carbon fiber and titanium hardware as I'd be spending $3,500+ for minimal gains. I'm going to explore some other trimming options including some of the existing panels. I've found if I reverse the forks and move the calipers forward I may be able to remove the leaded axle which has 26 ounces of lead and the front fender which is 3.11 lbs. Controlling wheelies on the launch is another thing I have to deal with.

You're way ahead of me Fordtech. When you need to consider the benefits of adding weight v dropping weight, power is probably the least of your concerns.
