New Michelin Power 3's???
02/16/13 3:35 AM

G'Day all,
I now need a new rear hoop as the existing Dunlop Road Smart is dead after the last trip. I will change the front Dunlop as well if i go with the new Michelins.
As a massive past fan of the Michelin Pilot Power Pures, I can't wait to hear about the new Power 3's.
Supposedly better in dry and wet with 20% more life...
If and when anyone has any experience / feedback I'd love to hear it.
There is one thing that concerns me though.
These new Power 3's are replacing the Power Pures, so why make comparisons to the Pilot Power 2CT's? 4 seconds faster in the wet and dry on a race track is nice to know but I want comparisons to the Pures.
Also have the Power 3's retained the lightness advantage of the Pures? And will these be okay for the demands of a hard ridden ZX-14?
Looking forward to any first hand feedback...

I haven't heard anything on them yet but I have to say I hated the front feed back of the Prures! They never just felt right! I run and love my my TC-2's!

I'm surprised a tire that new is that cheap! I love the PR3 but for fair weather fun, The Rosso Corsa, followed by the Q2's are my favorite. Too bad I can't get them pass 35k.
running DOT race tire on their 14?
I'm getting a set of R10 to hit the track this spring...

running DOT race tire on their 14?

I think Power Ones might be in that catagory.

I used a set last season on the track. I don't think they were as soft as the BT003s I had on there the year before.

I couldn't get this:

Nice lookin tread though.

Yeah the power one look a little like the first pic. The good thing about the R10's is that you can choose compound... I think the rear has soft, medium and hard! How many miles total including street were you able to run them for?

For me, the Power1 rear went 6,000 miles. I would get 8,000 out of most tires like Bridgestone BT-016s.

so go figure...I know no tire is going to last you that long but at least you have a comparo.

Although not nearly as soft, I was able to get over 20,000km on my Pilot Road 2CTs (they also stuck so well on the track that I could wear some metal away off the feelers).

How do you that?? I don't think I'll even be able to do that with the PR3! Maybe my suspension set up is too stiff for street riding. I love the way it feels though.

I heard really good things about them. I will have to try them one of these days.

How do you that??

IDK? --I guess I do a fair amount of highway miles. Cooler weather more of the season. Pretty easy on the throttle early spring and late Fall. I don't take them off until I hit all the ware bars.

got my power3's mounted and on along with new Driven sprockets (16/43) and EK ZZZ chain. the jury is still out on whether or not I'll be able to keep the rear hugger on with the 190/55 tire i put on it was rubbing the top of the tire I had to raise the hugger a little well see if it stays once im able to start riding. One thing i noticed is with the 55 it does not look as wide as the 190/50 tire

Just love my power 3's they give a lot of confidence, when cranking it into turns & they feel very neutral ie don't dive into corners. What hugger do you have fitted scottjkyl? as I don't have any clearance issues with my Powerbronze one & I am running a 190/55 tyre.

What hugger do you have fitted scottjkyl?

not sure, buddy of mine gave it to me, fortunately the holes are semi slotted so I was able to raise it up enough not to rub the tire. cant wait to get it out and try the new tires out but with 6" of snow still on the ground and they are calling for another 3" today it may be awhile before I get out.

All the racing guys use nitrogen in their tyres, it does not expand & contract like air. I check my tyre pressures every time before a ride, got 9 K's out of my last set of Pilot Power 2's, no hwy stuff though! I always break my new tyres in very easy, seems to make a difference.

k finally had a couple nice days to ride with the new power 3's first day was getting them scuffed in 2nd day was testing them out now i am by no means a knee dragger so my analysis may not mean anything but she was leaning into the corners better than ever and without much effort, started out easy to get the feel for them and by days end i was taking the same corners 30-40mph faster than before. now i did go with the 190/55. so far i like and the price is right on motomummy.com $300 for the set
