I imagine Earth was pretty peaceful when there were so few humans that they rarely, if ever, encountered one another.
It's been mostly downhill since then.

Even though I'm not religious, being more of an agnostic, waiting on scientific discoveries to reveal the actual truth about what's out there, by the same token, I'm not into hating on any particular religion. I believe they all have good points and bad and are interpreted in myriad ways to justify human behavior, which is not always good.
Even the most open and flexible of religions are 50 years behind science and take that long to integrate actual reality into their system of beliefs. So take back the last 50 years of science and there you have the most modern, up-to-date, and relevant religion.
When asked about dark matter and how it's obvious effects, impossibility of proof of material existence and comparison to the religious/scientific interface Frank Zappa postulated that it must be composed of stupidity because there's such a universal abundance of it.
