Heh they said that about Reagan too. How'd that work out for you? If you are one of the millions who got jobs as a result of his trickle down policies, and the GNP which has never been higher allowing for inflation, you would say "dam good".

Back then, the progressive liberals called is "voodoo economics".

Call names all you want, it worked for Reagan and it took one bad Republican president and a bunch of bad Democratic presidents (including the sitting one, who has failed miserably) to undo what Reagan created.

If Romney and Ryan do what they say they will, which is exactly what Reagan said, we will see the debt reduced drastically, employment up by 100%, and unemployment down to 4%.

If we give Obama another term, we will become another Greece. Clinton nailed it, even though he doesn't realise it, when he said Obama wants to create a modern economy. Yes, modern like Greece.

Actually "Voodoo Economics" was a term coined by George H. W. Bush to describe the economic policies of Ronald Reagan when they were primary opponents for the Republican Presidential nomination.

The problems in Greece were caused by the same multi-national banks that fucked up the economies of thre USA and every other capitalist nation in Europe. The use of derivatives and credit-default swaps, which are akin to insurance policies sold to unsuspecting customers with no reserve to pay claims are at the root of the world economic crisis, and unless those banks are reeled in and regulated, it's only a matter of time before they do it again. You have to ask yourself which candidate is more likely to put the clamps on this type of activity and which one is likely to help it along. The answer is pretty obvious.

@alg8er He absolutely had a Swiss bank account, which he "accidentally" forgot to include on his tax returns.

"Mitt Romney's campaign is amending the financial disclosure form he filed in 2011 to acknowledge that a Romney trust earned interest income from a Swiss bank account, a detail that had been missing from the report.... The discovery that the Romneys had $3 million in an account with the Swiss bank UBS came only after the Republican presidential candidate released his tax returns for 2010 on Tuesday."

http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/romney-failed-disclose-swiss-bank-account-income/story?id=15447680#.UEpis7JlTnE

Is that a big deal by itself? /shrug. But it's at least one more piece in the large fabric of lies that is Mitt Romney.

Hey Priv, how, exactly, are they planning on doing this? I know they SAY they are, but they have no specifics. What we need is "Less spending and more jobs". Well duh! But how do you do that? When you cut government spending, what happens to all those people that the government employs? They lose their jobs. When the basic problem with the economy is people needing jobs, how does putting more people out of work fix that?

Also, I honestly do not understand how you balance the budget by cutting taxes on the rich. Here is a site that gives a LOT of information on what his proposals might do. It's long, but thorough:
http://www.cbpp.org/cms/?fa=view&id=3658

By and large, it seems that Romney will drastically cut benefits for poor and middle class in order to have more tax breaks for the top 1% of wage earners. Why do people support this?

Medicare would be cut by $185 billion in 2016 and $2.0 trillion from 2014 through 2022. Achieving cuts of this size solely by reducing payments to hospitals, physicians, and other health care providers would threaten beneficiaries' access to care. Thus, beneficiaries would almost certainly face large increases in premiums and cost-sharing charges.

Cuts in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly the Food Stamp Program) would throw 13 million low-income people off the benefit rolls, cut benefits deeply — by over $1,800 a year for a family of four — or some combination of the two. These cuts would primarily affect poor families with children, seniors, and people with disabilities.

Compensation payments for disabled veterans (which average less than $13,000 a year) would be cut by more than one-fourth, as would pensions for low-income veterans (which average about $11,000 a year) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits for poor aged and disabled individuals (which average about $6,000 a year and leave poor elderly and disabled people well below the poverty line).

Non-defense discretionary spending would be cut by $176 billion in 2016 — and $1.7 trillion through 2022 — in addition to the deep cuts already reflected in the budget baseline as a result of the caps in the BCA and the appropriations bills passed during 2011. This category of spending covers a wide variety of public services such as aid to elementary and secondary education, veterans' health care, law enforcement, national parks, environmental protection, and biomedical and scientific research.

As a share of the economy, non-defense discretionary spending would shrink to 2.3 percent of GDP by 2016 and 1.6 percent of GDP by 2022; it would fall to even lower levels if the budget also had to be balanced (see Figure 3). In contrast, spending for this category has averaged 3.9 percent of GDP over the past 50 years and has never fallen below 3.2 percent of GDP during this period.

"The discovery that the Romneys had $3 million in an account with the Swiss bank UBS came only after the Republican presidential candidate released his tax returns for 2010 on Tuesday. The campaign had maintained that it was not necessary to disclose the Swiss account because Romney's money manager, Brad Malt, had shuttered it in early 2010."

Not a lie, and not illegal. Plus it earned him $1700. That wouldn't even change my tax return, let alone his.

I don't begrudge him his money as long as it was earned honestly, but the wealthy and powerful have ways of working things in their favor. His wife's convention speech about how they had to dip into his stock portfolio to pay bills while they went to college and she didn't work tells me they think they are close to the norm, when they are nowhere near it. But the fact that he hasn't made full financial disclosure says he is somehow not proud of the wealth he was born into. The fact that he wants to get rid of Unions and lower wages as a way of stimulating the economy instead of asking those who have more than they need to pay more tells me he's out of touch with the average person struggling to pay bills and get by.

I was surprised to read his V.P. choice enjoys quite a bit of Union support in Wisconsin. He has been a proponent of Prevailing Wage and Davis Bacon law and for that, the trade Unions have supported him financially and with votes. Further study revealed his family has a large construction company that is signatory with the International Union of Operating Engineers and if Prevailing Wage and Davis-Bacon were struck down, companies from Florida and Texas could sweep in with their low-paid, no-benefits employees and put his family concern out of business.

So again, follow the money to get the true story. Apparently Romney has a lot of it that he hasn't even admitted to (yet). The Superpacs that are backing him are a bunch of billionaires who would rather see you work for less than for them to make any less. If you can really justify that being in your own personal self-interest, go ahead and vote for him. His plan is to balance the budget on the backs of the middle class and make his rich supporters even richer.

I was just commenting on the "illegal/lie" comment. I don't see Romney's plan, or Obama's plan working. I say a flat tax with no deductions or exceptions, and stop the ridiculous spending. Now is not the time for free anything that costs the taxpayers too much.

Just try to cut the farm subsidies and see how far you get. Welfare mothers and illegal immigrants are low-hanging fruit. There's no way Romney can make enough cuts to balance the budget without raising some taxes and cutting the defense budget.

Plus, the Republicans are itching to start another war in the Middle East, most likely with Iran. More billions down the drain and more blood spilled in the sand for their greater glory. And another hole for middle-class taxpayers to dig out of while the rich play merrily on The definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result.

.
Republicans kill Veterans Job Bill yesterday that would help veterans.

FROM THE NYTIMES:
The measure, which would have potentially created jobs for up to 20,000 veterans, was blocked on a procedural point by Republicans, who argued that the bill was unpaid for. Senator Patty Murray, a Washington Democrat and the bill’s main sponsor, said the bill would have covered the costs in part with fees on Medicare providers and suppliers who are delinquent on their tax bills. The procedural vote was 58 to 40; 60 votes would have been required to waive Republican objections.

Vote your pocketbook! Woohoo! Screw the Unions, screw the nepotistic politicians, screw the rich!

...until you become rich off your Union Prez father-in-law...

The wealthy in this country (people worth millions) don't really care that much about job losses, rising price of commodities, etc, because they are higher on Maslow's pyramid than the rest of us middle-class fu@#s. Oh sure, their profit margin might suffer a bit, but when you own a Maserati, the price of mac and cheese doesn't matter too much.
