17yr old with a ZX14
06/29/09 9:06 PM

Well, i have recently joined this site and recently got my first sport bike which is of course a ZX14. I am only 17 years old and am probably one of the youngest kids on a bike this big. I think i have enough sense and responsibility to not kill myself on it, Haha. I have been riding my brothers Hayabusa before i got my 14 and before that i learn how to ride on a goldwing and honda pc800 and have been riding for 3 years now.

I just thought i would introduce myself

Goodbye,

Hi youngninjadude welcome to the site Hope your with us for a long time to come. When I was seventeen all I wanted was an old bomb for a car and girl .
Don't forget all that safety gear you need to wear, at best all it will ever do is reduce the gravel rash and scratches it won't stop you getting seriously hurt, but wear it anyway.
Here in Queensland Australia at seventeen you can only get a 250 licence for 3 years.
What dose mum think ?
Good luck ride safe, learn everthing you can, take you time.

I think you'll be fine, YN. Just remember to take it slow for a several months, especially on cornering and in traffic. It is a different bike even though you've already experienced some other big bikes. Considering your experience, I think your safer than you would be on a smaller sport bike. The 14 is so stable, even on bumps. I imagine there is a lot more unexpected things that are likely to happen on a liter or 600. <<but, like many of us, you will want one of those some day, too. Hope the 'rents have a big garage.

Have a huge amount of fun and adventure and please ride like a granny when you have a chick (with a helmet) on the back.

;)

Welcome!

I've had mine since i was 21, and it wasn't stock for long.

Just remember, respect the power.. But control the beast. You are riding the bike, don't let the bike ride you. And most importantly, keep the shiny side up.

You know as much as i do insurance is TOO expensive on this bike to mess around and get a ticket. Trust me, around here just doing a wheelie is a $600 wreckless ticket, hook your bike and take you to jail offense. 4 points on your license AND your insurance will double.

Trust me.

Congratulations on your new ride! Just remember you MUST respect the 14 or it will F'ing KILL YOU... that is not meant to be funny.

Take your time, get to know the machine, and you will be fine... but just take it easy. Remember you don't have to prove that you are riding the most powerful bike on the road, the bike demands respect both from the on looker and the driver alike.

Have fun and ride safe!

What kind of gear do you ride with? Is texas a helmet required state? I hope you strap a bucket on your dome.

I always said that guys on bikes were crazy, had the lady at the DMV offer to give me the motorcycle endorsement and I said no, that id probably kill myself. 3 months later I got a Kawi 636. 3 years later I got my ZX14, and have loved it every since.

Ride safe out there ninjadude!

I wear a helmet at all times, texas is not a helmet required state. Im in Atlanta Georgia for the summer and its too hot to wear my jacket with pads and spine protector or gloves but when i get back to Texas and summer is over i will be wearing it.

Rock ON,
Congrats, I am new to the bike myself and I am loving it. Not to sound like and old fart, but remember 10 minutes of reckless fun is not worth 60 years of life. Now ride the wheels off

Im 21 and i am not even sure if im gonna ride this bike.

You're ending up in the hospital kid.

Ok Guy's/Gal's, we were all 17 at one time, I remember being his age and listening to everyone say the same things to me when I bought a 1980 Honda CBX 1050 Supper Sport. I didn't listen then either. We ALL have been there and done that. lol I didn't take anyones advise until later that year of 1984.... spent 6 months in a hospital waiting for the broken leg, hip, collar bone, ribs, concussion, fractured skull, and punctured lung to heal and then the time to learn to walk again. I learned a lesson the hard way, some times thats what it takes...if it doesn't kill ya first. I wish him well and good luck cause we all know it's not wether or not your going to have an accident but when. Good luck and enjoy the bike, it really is a great machine.

I'm not worried about, YND. He's been on big, fast, heavy bikes for 3 years. He's ready.
