Just spent the weekend riding the 2013 1000RR at Keith Code's school. The Beemer is fast, nimble, kick ass and I think a perfect track bike. I'm fairly tall so for me I kinda feel like a trained bear on it. Riding the 1000RR in town or even for a weekend trip would not be comfortable. Never had my 14r on a track but it rides great everywhere.

Padre, does the BMW have the "pull" that the 14 has ? I know it doesnt have the torque the 14 has, but its 100 pounds lighter, so I was wondering if that gave the feeling that it had the same pull as the 14 ....

Padre, after being used to the size of the 14R, the RR did seem a bit small to me, too. I am 6 foot 2.

I also agree that it'd be quite uncomfortable for any length of time given the *laying down on a missle* riding position. But that position is required, given the warp speeds you'll be hitting!

Carabuser, they keep the traction control on rain mode for the students so I wasn't able to see how we'll it spun my eyeballs back. Having said that I think the 1000RR has a great deal of power. It is lighter and has 193 hp. If I were a smaller guy it might be the perfect ride. I'm 6'6" and 250#s. whether a bike is a hundred lbs lighter or not really is a mute point. When I got on 14r this morning and rode it to work the first thought I had was, this bike fits my frame.

ZX14man, yes the tuck is essential on that bike considering the speeds but then so is the 14r. I'm looking forward to getting mine on a track and comparing the two. I love the 1000RR,and to ride it for the weekend is fun and a challenge. Well worth it. I am happy to extol the virtues of my 14r and I love it. That being said, the 1000RR is altogether a different bike in my opinion.

For me to compare the two, both are incredibly powerful. Maybe equally so. The14r is heavier and bulkier and a lot more comfortable to ride. The 1000RR is lighter and more nimble and not so comfortable.

Apparently I need a 3rd job ;) and we computer geeks make ok money. I didnt realize how much I was missing out on. I only have an 82 Yamaha Maxim, 2002 Honda VTXc 1800 and the 2012 ZX14r.

But I can say that I can ride my VTX 16 hours straight :-D

Exactly right.

The RR is nothing compared to the 14R as for as vibration free comfort and smoothness.
But given the power to weight ratios.......I'd love to see a drag race, both bikes bone stock.

Kawasaki’s PR line of the 14R being the fastest accelerating bike on the planet, I am not so sure about. Top speed or quarter mile, either one.

The RR is pure hell on wheels.

Soup to nuts. I'm not a race fanatic, or professional, I'm just a guy. The 1000RR and 14R both kick ass. One is bigger than the other. They both have the magic in the wand

I'm 5'7 and log a lot of athletic miles on the weekend. I also rode the Beemer at the Keith Code School and a buddy's on the street. Like was said, fantastic track bike in every way. BUT, wouldn't own one for the street unless I had curvy backroads less than 30 mins from my house. Too uncomfortable for the street IMO. I watch my buddies on liter bikes do Tai-Bo every time we roll home from a long day of curve killin'. Their butts and legs are on fire while I'm chillin' on the Big Ninja. Funny as hell.

And it cannot TOUCH the 14R in the "pull" department. The Beemer needs over 9K rpms to really get going. Even my buddy is super impressed with the Big Ninja's pull/power. The fun factor is off the meter.

Thanks CurveKilla, after reading your post, I decided to keep the 14 and NOT get the beemer, a great bike, no doubt, but the Ninja makes more sense for me, and I dont want to have to get past 9000 rpms to feel that pull !

I'm going to go get my suspension set up next week, and I will be set

Yes, the RR does have the rider sitting up, ass in the air, as if he's trying to pass a peach seed!

Good discussion, I am enjoying this thread.

I have a '12 CBR 1000 in addition to my '09 ZX-14 and I can relate to many of the comments here. I am glad I am able to have both and I don't have to choose.

Carabuser,

Both bikes are awesome. It just depends on your style of riding and what you're looking for in a bike. I'm biased because of all the bikes I've owned and piloted, the Big Ninja is the best. I'm sure Beemer owners say the same about their bikes.

I was originally drawn to the matte gray color, but after looking at the bikes in person, I think I would lean towards the red/while/blue colors that are associated with the BMW racing superbike, like ninjavin and jagman both have.

But the flat finish of the gray, is really sharp, as well.

The design of that swingarm is a bit odd looking, though.

Some interesting exchanges in the replies to this video.

But in this one, the 14R redeems itself.

RE: Curious, did anyone consider the BMW S1000RR??

I would definitely agree with much of this thread. The 14R is probably the best "all arounder" when it comes to acceleration, handling and for some most importantly, comfort, the 14 is probably the best choice.

Just to throw my .02 in the bucket. I did see an S1000RR on the dyno at a local shop and I think there HP numbers are a little inflated. It had exhaust at least on it and put down 167HP where many of the 14R's have been doing 188-194HP stock and over 200 with a couple mods. Change out the heavy ass exhaust on the 14R and do a couple mods to lighten it up and a good part of the that 100lb differential starts to disappear.

The Beemer definitely has more techno gadgetry on it and is definitely a track weapon for sure but for the all around use that many of use here like the 14R is the better choice. While some can tolerate the aggressive ergos on the 1000 it's not a long distance comfortable bike. I didn't think twice about taking my 14 on a 1500 mile weekend trip all packed up with gear I wouldn't even consider that on a 1000 any more (I've done it in the past but it's painful) and I'm in pretty damn good shape and it's still uncomfortable after a few hours. It's not about riding all day on it that's hard, it's about riding all day, day after day on a trip that separates the two much more distinctly.

I'm fortunate though, I have the best of both worlds. I have a Victory Vision for the long haul and lazy days and I have the 14R which I can also do the medium hauls on and when I wanna be a little hooligan for a few hours lol.

When it's all said and done, what kind of riding do you do determines the machine that fits you best. If your a weekend warrior and all you do is rail the corners for a couple hundred miles every weekend and you want a bike that does that great then the 1000 may be the best choice, if you want an all around bike that does everything really well then the 14R is the way to go.

After the test ride, I now want on of them sum bi*ches so bad I can taste it. Don't really need a second bike, but I still want a RR if for nothing more than to look at and shine on………..LOL

Believe me, I’d *make* time to ride that rascal, that you can bet on.
The 14 and RR would make such a great pair of machines to have.

ZX14MAN64,

I think you are right, it would be nice to have both, and hell yea, even with my medical problems etc, I would find time to ride that RR ....

That's what I like about this board, give kudos to whatever bike deserves it, on one of the other boards, people are almost hoping Suzuki goes out of business, saying things like, I have had kawis since the Z1 and never looked back and they say they dont care if Suzuki goes out of business, I hope they dont, they are a small company compared to Kawi and Honda etc .. Sorry, didnt mean to go off topic !

The Beemer is a beautiful machine with plenty of smooth ponies and electronics. A sheer dream bike. I plunked down a deposit and decided to take one out for a test run (I have a great relationship with a dealer here). I am 6'3 and 230lbs. After swallowing my knees and sucking in my gut and laying out on the bike as if it were some torture rack. I decided to look at the S1300. The BMW 1300S was beautiful and the riding position was comfortable, but the bike lack the "wow" appeal when parked. I wanted a powerful bike, I could live with and ride in comfort. I also wanted a head turner. If I was dolling out high insurance, I figured go hard or go home. I bought the 2012 Zx 14 and I am in love. It meets all the criteria, looks, comfort, performance and budget (this in view of the BMW starting in the late 20's). Very happy with the ZX.
