I just came back from a ride. 6,391 on the clock. Passed two big rigs. One, I bogged in a high gear and I must have waxed the paint being that close to that truck, Next truck I passed was the front end just started dancing off the surface as I shifted to the next gear.
And I am wondering if your bike is as smooth as mine at 3,100rpm in 6th. I had to look down at the key to see if I was just coasting or it was running.

20,000 miles ..not a single problem ..cept it wants to go ballistic fast and kill me all the time.
Oh ..ya there is a problem ..
it is real real hard on back tires 'cause the throttle seems to wanna go WO all the time. Strange

I hammered that bike just now. Brought it to a dump station (just slid a drain container under the bike); dumped the oil; slipped a piece of paper under the flowing hot oil that did not even cool for 2 minutes; she pours out; I dab that paper and see metal = One tiny spec.
Next is the oil filter to tear into. If she is clean = Normal Wear. If she is filled with Babbitt debris where that little spec came from... I, I...............

Mine ran really smooth even with the broken piston. It didnt start making noise until the pieces broke off and fell down into the pan. When they drained the oil there wasnt even any debris in it. It broke so cleanly you could put the pieces back together on the piston. I'll see if I can get a pic from the dealer and post it.

I would like to add that there are more than 3 cases of #3 rods failing. My 08' #3 wrist pin just failed on the dyno at friggin 4k miles. I have owned over 24 motorcycles and never once have had this happen. Kawasaki has just sunk to last place on my list. This is truly a defective piece of Shit. Now I have to put $1k in rods to compensate for their design deficiency and the list goes on and on... I hope you are reading this King Kawasaki.. It's the last time I bow down to you...

Your Not the First to have a problem. I tossed a rod right through the case last summer with 9100 miles on the clock, guess which number???? Yep U guessed it #3 and thank god I had an extended warranty cause the cost to fix the engine was around $7000 bucks to fix.
They had my bike for a month and then I get a call saying that Kawi has never heard of such a thing and that they were probably were not gonna cover it. After talking to Hub and BillEason on this site they said that I was not the only one and that if I searched around ZX14 sites I would find info to prove it was not an isolated case. I call the dealer and explain that I had atleast 3 other cases documenting a problem with #3 cylinder and an hour later they called me back to say Kawi was goin to cover it. 4 months later I got her back....Paid $6 buck for an inspection and rode out the door...extended warranty paid for itself in this case.

Sorry to hear about your bike's issues. I've got an '07 with 54K on her. On;y probs I had were front rotors warping at 2K (KHI replaced them twice under warranty) and the usual cam chain tensioner noise. No probs other than those issues. Love my 14!

My thoughts mostly sound like "wall of text crits for 1,000,000,000,000,000 damage"

I have 50K on my 08 with no problems. I paid $550 for the extended warranty. The only way the dealership is looking at paying for the problem with your bike after all these years is that your 08 has the extended warranty. Mine will be up in November of this year. My 2012 is right on 11K, I picked up the extended warranty for $500 and I have had zero problems with it.

rod bearing #3 issue with my '08 zx14. Bought it brand new and after about 13,000 miles (and during a ride), i heard the 'knocking sound' and took it to a nearby dealer. bike stayed in the shop a few weeks and i was assured it was fixed although it didnt sound 'fixed.' Went on a ride for about 75 miles and took it right back to the shop that 'fixed' it and rode it right into the service department with it knocking loud as hell.
3 months later and basically a complete engine rebuild, i got my bike back. no more issues until one of the coils needed replaced. other than those 2 problems, bike rode like a dream. recently traded for a 2012 :)

I have ride Kawasakis all my life and Am / Was a loyal consumer...!!!
However:... I Purchased a "Brand New" 2010 -ZX14 at the end of 2010... So I didn't get much riding in that year... Maybe 5000km
* Spring of 2012 - with 24,000km on my bike, the connecting rod bolts failed and "Blew" my engine (Thank God for buying the extended warranty). They replaced/rebuilt my bike, but I went more then 9 WEEKS !! Without a motorcycle... Because "KAWI" does not have demo bikes for its "Customers" to use when their product has a "Catastrophic Failure"...!!!
* Now June of 2013 - with 37,000km on my bike I've got the exact same noise coming from the bike it's in the shop being "Diagnoised" AGAIN...!!! right know...!!
All I know is I will not go without my bike for that long again...!!!
I can not believe "KAWI" would be so "Inconsiderate" to a loyal customer... Not once, but twice when their customer is so "Inconvenienced"... I treat my bike with velvet gloves... It is my Baby, and I can't go a day without riding... Or cleaning... I "HOPE"... KAWI will step up and make things right... Not just the repairs, but deal with the inconvenience
