Thanks Hub, this is the RSV4, I bought it new, it's only a year and 4 months old and still under the factory warranty. This engine is using a lot of oil for a new bike with oly 2300 miles. I contacted the distributor AF1 racing and they said to bring it in for an oil burn study. So you're saying that carbon fluff could be rich fuel burn from the Aprilia Race Map? It certainly runs a lot cooler with the catalyst gone, so I'm guessing they went way richer than the Euro 5 map that was originally on there.

Yes, probably oil/fuel rich. Never kept my ape long enough to monitor the oil. The break-in IMO is everything. So don't even go near the 4k window say for a 14 break-in, nor go near the 6k rpm for the final 1000 mile break-in period before you hammer it hard.

I'd like to know the process of their oil burn study. WOT, throw it on the dyno and run it at 100mph for 2 hours? I'd do something like run it up to a 100, chop the throttle and kill it at its lowest rpm before it bucks, pull the plugs and see what the sustained lift looks like at the plugs.

Hubmeister, they change the oil, top it off, add a new oil filter and seal the drain plug and filler so they can tell if it's been tampered with and then you go ride 1000 miles and bring it back.

Thanks, Kruz. Sounds fare enough. Sounds like the factory is going to say, 'oh, just 8oz., no problem.' Harley had those new twinkie engines loosen up at the crank. They were paying out for cranks out of spec. So to stop fixing their poor design, they expanded the clearance number, and became worn far enough to breakout of the warranty length of time.

Lettuce sea WATT ocean of excuses they tell you? Then prorate the time sitting at the dealer being repaired and extend the warranty.

As an aside, I sent Ed Cook at AF1 Racing, the Austin TX based Distributor, an email and he mentioned all my negative posts on the RSV4 forum lately, didn't sound all that friendly and also said they have seen only two oil burner '21-'22 RSV4s but a few more catastrophic engine failures.

I don't know if this was meant to fill me with confidence or not but it doesn't help that I'm one of the unlucky ones that got a burner.

I love my Ape, best bike I've ever owned and a match for the new BMW but they need to understand that when spending $23,000 on what amounts to an expensive toy, I can't help but a be a bit agitated at the out come.

Reminds me of my experience with my '06 ZX-14, 17 years on and still as reliable as a cast iron anvil but my buddy bought an '07 and spun #3 rod bearing in the first 2000 miles. Go figure?

Hubster, much as it pains me to say it, if I had to choose one bike today the order would be this, BMW first and '16 ZX-10R second with Mother Ape coming in a distant third.

I love the Aprilia's brute V-4 force that makes my ZX-14 feel tame by comparison and the deep growling exhaust note and exotic Italian looks but I am just so much more fluid and dare I say.... faster... on these two with the S1000RR getting the final nod.

I just came in from a fast ride on the Beemer and am absolutely blown away by how fast I can go on this thing with so little effort.

The hype is real Hub, get a march on and pick one up, a '23 if any are left.....
