LEDs: My Findings

Put LED bulbs in the hi and lo lamps on my 2011 14. Totally useless! I could see better with a flashlight taped to my helmet! YMMV

How about some detail as to what you did, bulbs, etc.?

Ordered Samsung H11 set of four off EBay. Slight mod to make those fit in the H9 harness. I expected the 10W differential to be slightly less "illuminating". However, the lighting turned out to be very poor. I think that for daytime riding, the bike would be more noticeable to oncoming traffic but at night, from the rider's perspective, one cannot see the road surface or obstacles.

Maybe the projector lens do not focus the LED out put satisfactorily.

LEDs require a completely different optical design. Look at a simple adjustable LED flashlight, the focal length is adjusted by moving the 1st optical lens.

Reflectors are just that, LEDs are projector with an exit optic to adjust focal length.

Well stated cruderudy. I laymans terms, "they just don't work right behind a (fixed) projector lens".

Thanks for the info. It sucks it didn't work out, but I guess at least we all know now not to do this. Was going to say what was said about the reflectors and what not being different.

I don't even know if it helps the only reason I"d want all LEDs if it cut down on bugs being attracted to the bike. To me that would be totally worth it if I could cut down the bug goo 50%.

I installed Hikari LED's and found them to be a dramatic improvement over the PIAA bulbs I had in the bike. Check them out on Amazon.

berndV, that is what I expected. Perhaps I chose the incorrect product/mfg. The "bulbs" shown here were plug'n'play.
