Risers for ZX14R question
01/06/18 12:26 PM

I'm getting ready to purchase risers for my 2017 ZX14R and wanted to know if there's any real difference in quality between Gen Mar, Helibar, Apex, Black Path, other brands or does it just boil down to preference. I'd like to raise my bars as high as possible without having to change brake lines/throttle etc. I'm open to any and all suggestions...thanks.

Not sure about the other brands you listed but I bought the Black Path 1 1/4" risers and really like them. Stock cables work fine.

In the main toolbar at the top of the page, if you type "risers" in the Search Terms section, select Search Messages Posted by "All members", and select Match "All Words" you can read several results that match your question. Good luck.

I've had GenMar and Helibar on various bikes over the years. I haven't seen any difference in quality of build or fit between them. I have no experience with the other makes and models. I think I would look at the design and results between them all and pick the set that I thought may fit my needs best. For example the Helibar risers are 3/4" up and 3/8" back, where the GenMar is 1" up and 5/8" back.

I have an 06' ZX14 without risers and a new to me 2012 ZX14R with the Helibar risers. I just don't feel a big difference and may take the Helibar off the 14R, but am waiting until spring when the temps are up enough I can see if there is anything during aggressive leaning that I don't like about the handling with the risers. With that said, I'm one of those old guys that prefers the riding position of sport bikes even for longer distance riding.

Best Regards.......George

I have had Gen-Mar's on a couple of CBR1100XXs and both my ZX14s, and they work great, easy install, and no need to change cables. Not a huge difference, and there are plenty of other options/brands that can raise the bars even more if you like. I think some guys have even run (for instance) BOTH Gen-Mar and Heli-Bar risers concurrently. I also added the lowered (Buell) pegs, a Corbin seat, and a ThrottleMeister, and I love the combination of comfort for the slab while still being able to "get down" for the twisty bits. Definitely NOT ready for the C14 yet! :-)

2013 ZX14R ABS, Red, Scorpion Serket Carbon slip ons, centerstand, Rizoma Mirrors, MRA DoubleBubble, Gen-Mar risers, Buell pegs, ThrottleMeister, GIVI V35, Corbin saddle, backrest and glovebox, Power Bronze Hugger, Radiator Guard...so far...

I bought my 2010 ZX14 second hand in 2013 and it had Genmar 1” risers. I wanted to raise to 2” so I bought the cheapest 1” I could get on line at the time which was Helibar. New high tensile bolts and now I have 2” risers. The genmar and helibar risers fit together as if they are the same brand.

Trashhauler did you have to change out any of the cables after raising the bars 2 inches?

Hi Wellcraft - cable length was fine.the brake line goes to a banjo fitting
on the lower triple clamp and the hose is too short. I moved the bracket that attaches
The banjo fitting and all was good.
