If you can't fit a damper above the top crown, there is always a way to mount it below. You would just need to figure it out. This here is for a thumb brake but you could remove the lever and bolt on the heim joint of an oil tube damper. Mount the tube to the frame.

It's standard procedure to rig up something like this for a bike that does not have a factory made bracket to fit it. There was a member on here earlier this winter who was planning to mount a damper below the top crown like the Hayabus's stock damper.

If you go with bar risers, I don't see why you couldn't mount a HyperPro with ZX-14 bracket as long as you cut some extended side plates from some 1/8" steel and put a spacer below the center mounting point.

Take a look at the Scotts Damper ( Steering stabilizer) Scotts or teh GPR which I use on my 14 .GPR

I am not familiar with your bar set up so not sure about room but here are a couple of pics showing the GPR and how little room it actually takes. Hope these help ( The Scott is very similar design.

I have one like yours Yanman.May be the same model...not sure.Works very well to add some stability to the front.Mine is adjustable, but still active. It will tighten up according to the severity of the force.Which it does instantaneously.

I see steering dampers on Ebay that look just like HyperPro and the cost from China is about $16. I've followed a few threads over the years where people purchased theses and none of them said it didn't work. Google "I crashed with chinese steering damper" and you won't find anything alarming, at least not in the titles. You are supposed to have steering dampers tested and serviced every year too. Or you can just buy a new Chinese damper (or two). If you're racing, maybe you don't want to sacrifice any measure of safety but for everyday sport riding, I would try one of these.

The 14's steering is stable enough that you are very unlikely to encounter any oscillation, just a single snap if you get off track in a wheelie or if you run over a bump.

NewNewNew says I don't have to repeat that with the inception of this bike, not one designer changed his mind as to add a damper to the 14 family.

NewNewNews flash says I haven't heard years and years of stories that the 14 has an innate or an inherent wobble problem.

NewNewNew says this bike was well designed, right out of the crate new.

Damned. Thanks. April 1 coming up QUICK (next weekend)
Last (cheap) attempt at getting good free advice.
If I find the decent wrench guy, I'll do the damper.

My brother had damper on his speed triple and I liked it. Not much else, but I liked that.
Never liked his bike but I will admit: he can fn ride it.

Tank bag of choice? which one has capacity and fits/sticks to 14?
I like capacity. And not interfering with the steering/gauges.

And soft bags, saddlebags, some bag for back?
I can't stand hard bags. Or the associated hardware PIA.
Someone got a good solution for the 14?

Gotta get those tires changed. Yes. chicago is a pain! For motorcyclists.

Nobody's been to Keith Code? I really expected some lively feedback on that.
Doesn't Hub teach there? Hah. God I'm funny. (he'll never find me).

Anyone can put a steering damper on. I'd give it a shot before paying a pro to do that.

they make cargo nets for the seat cowl.

I didn't read every post but I agree the tires should be changed. As fast as the 14 can go you gotta have decent tires.
Unless someone else mentioned this, you need to change the brake and clutch fluid if the fluid is old. While you're doing that, I suggest installing some "Speedbleeders" to make brake fluid changes easier.

Hey, Rook. Good to hear from you too.
I haven't been visiting here much, or riding much lately. Trying to get my back fixed so I can start living again the way I want to.

Hang in there. I know how bad back pain can be. I've had a few warning shots over the last 15 tears. It's worked itself out but the last time I needed medication. It was still really bad after two weeks. Exercise as much you can. that seems to make a big improvement in my flexibility. I hope to keep riding but damn it's starting to get expensive. Tires, insurance, replacement parts, all that stuff.

Still working on getting out. Haven't yet. 70 degrees here today and will be acceptable through the weekend.

Will get it going this weekend.

Signed up for the Superbike school on 11/6 - 11/7 in November (level 2; I'm a pussy). Gives me a LOT of incentive to get back some real riding skills. I will need my full 5000 miles this summer to be ready. Maybe I'll get to meet one of you there? It's $2550 plus travel etc. I am looking forward to meeting Jesus personally on that track.

The bad back is BAD. I had back problems a LONG time ago and I've been to the gym virtually every morning for 12 years just to keep that at bay.

I bought a lithium ion battery and I've got the new tires scheduled. Thinking about a stupidly expensive AGV carbon fiber helmet to get me past my feelings toward helmets.

Will probably look at a riser and a damper. But after I get this riding back in hand. Maybe June.

Fortunately, these days I've got a few bucks. (comes and goes. mostly goes). YES. It is getting quite expensive to ride, especially near the big city. I can see why young people are NOT doing this any more. Shame.

Yeah, IDK if I'm going to ride as the season draws nearer. Things came up. Tires are expensive. Insurance, registration...I might have to draw the line. Riding in a lower skill level is smart. The worst thing that an happen is that you are a big fish in a small pond. It never bothered me. I ride at my own pace.

A couple of suggestions:

May need to flush & refill the fluids (oil, coolant, brake, & clutch). If they haven't been changed in 11 years it is way overdue.
Get a new set of brake pads (OEM or EBC) if you are not comfortable with how the braking feels.
Front & rear stands will be a good investment, don't want to flat-spot those new tires if the bike has to sit again for a long time.
Waterproof boots/gloves - Alpinestars makes great touring & race-style items for year-round use.
Waterproof jacket/pants or a hi-viz rain suit. You will get caught in the rain sooner or later. And it will give you a chance to work on your wet weather braking skills.
A good back brace/kidney belt you can wear under your riding pants. I had to have spinal surgery a few years ago & the brace makes a world of difference during & after a ride.
Battery tender/trickle charger for the winter.
Pinlock visor & insert for your helmet. Fogged up visors suck.
FirstGear & Cortech make good tank bags for the 14.
Louder horn, the stocker just does not put out enough sound.
Earplugs - your eardrums will thank you later.
