I am trying to start my 2008 zx14 but a clicking noise comes from the starter relay. I thought it was the battery and bought a new one but that wasn't the problem. Can anyone tell me whats wrong with my bike and how to fix it.

Are you sure the new battery is charged?
If so, then the relay or more likely a wire from the relay to the starter???
That's all I got on this one. sorry, probably not much help.

reminds me of a random problem i had with my ER-6F a.k.a. Ninja 650...
same thing, would hear the clicking, but no ignition... sometimes ok, sometimes not
it turned out to be the magnetic switch, which is inline with the starter relay
small black square with 2 connectors... am not sure the ZX14 has the same, though...

can you push start it down a hill with the new battery?Great idea. It should roll start pretty easy. I would try to get it in 3rd gear to do that. You'd need to roll it and shift from 2. It might go to 3rd but this transmission is made to only go to 1, N and 2 when shut down. Then coast down a hill and pop the clutch.

1. I want to load test the original battery and new battery now. That tells me the batteries are not the problem.
2. I want to pull the small right engine cover and turn the crank so I know the engine is not seized. That tells me the engine is not the problem.
3. I want to jump the cables at the starter solenoid so I know the solenoid is the problem.

or so you know the cable is the problem.
If my engine is quite hot, I will often hear a buzz noise back there. Or I hit the starter button and nothing happens then I release and hit again and it either cranks or buzzes. This doesn't happen unless I try to start the engine when it is HOT. I very rarely need to do that so it is not a problem but I have been thinking for some time that I should find out what is going. I'll be curious to hear what you determine to be the problem.

"Are you sure the new battery is charged?"I'm goin with that.
"or so you know the cable is the problem".For me,I'd just jump it off may car battery.See if she'll crank.Did it once or twice a long time ago with my 07.Attached ground to the brake pedal.Hot lead to the + on the battery. Not the same as what Hub suggests.
I'm not sure the reason actually, but I've read pushing the bike to start it is a BAD way to go.

yeah but he might still need to narrow down a problem after the battery if it won't start with jumper cables.
Using a jumper wire between the battery and the starter will tell him if there is a bad connection in the OEM wire or if the starter is just shot.
Removing the crankcase cover is easy to do. Turn clockwise while facing the RH side of the bike --same way the wheel turns when rolling forward. Some people don't worry about turning the motor backwards but I do. Go clockwise. Or just see if you can turn the motor over by rolling and popping the clutch and might as well try a roll start at the same time.

"yeah but he might still need to narrow down a problem after the battery if it won't start with jumper cables."...maybe.EVERYTIME my battery was low,it clicked and buzzed. At least this way,he'll know if the starter is working. It can't fire without the starter working. So he'll know that right away.Charge the new battery.Check volts...install.Crank starter. If it aint workin then, probably an intermittant short to ground in that circuit.
The jump is the easiest way to find out if it's the starter or not.

4. I want to go into the garage and wail on everything with a well used ersatz penis and taunt the girls at the local pizza joint. "How many brewskis, please?"
As I thought!!

Push starting a bike is one of the best exercises you can get and I've done plenty. It is necessary to push bike down hill (or some kind of decline) for it to work.
First, get bike in neutral, it is much easier to push, and turn key to start position. Then start pushing and run as fast as you can. Then, you will jump on to the seat and drop it into 1st gear (Dukes of Hazzard style) Starting fluid can also benefit this situation.
If you are not able to do this mandatory exercise or fall over along with your bike you are a girly man.

I've been advisd to stay away from starting fluid on FI engines. Up to you if you want to take a flying leap onto the seat like mounting a running horse but I would admit to being a girly man myself.
I very recently push started a guy on his cruiser. I pushed, he started. Just warn the guy pushing he will quite possible fall flat on his face when the bike takes off. Get to a hill if you can.

We are experiencing a condition psychologists call the 'winter crazies.' When men are unable to do what they love.and replace that with meaningless activities. Last night I popped 1/2 Viagra, hoping to get a good jerk session, but somehow forgot and fell asleep.

That is getting really bad when you look forward to viagra to pleasure yourself. I can relate though--there is no woman worth the $50 pill anymore.

...not saying women are no good, just not so good for everything they used to be good for. Just speaking the truth. Lots of us won't say it but almost all of us think the same, I'm willing to wager.

$50 gets you a hooker with a pill in Brazil. With age we have to lower our standards and explore new avenues. Is there a dating app for those with disabilities?
Do I really need a woman who has 2 arms? One is plenty as long as she can clean and shave. Does she really need both legs? I could live with a minimum of 1 1/2 legs. Does she really need to talk...no! What if she is slightly retarded? But her tities are not retarded. I can overlook many flaws as long as she can twerk.

I should have known better than to challenge you! I think I've met my match.
You're definitely at your edgiest, Nova!
If I could find a nice mildly retarded girl who hasn't had a couple hundred men defile her otherwise perfect vagina or squeezed a couple infants out of it, I guess I would consider getting to know her. I wouldn't really consider it lowering my standards....I mean, if I didn't like her I wouldn't bother in the first place. Actually, I'm sure
I did know a few girls like that in my younger days and they go on to lead lives that are pretty normal. If you can actually tell by the time they are grown up, it is more severe disabilities and generally there would be some slight physical abnormalities that would go with it. I would not go there. Might as well try to get a boner for an old woman who is a genius.
