Oil Change and loose bolts
09/28/12 11:07 PM

I just chabged the oil. I have never had any machine ever that was easier to change the oil and filter than on this bike. Probably would have taken 5 minutes except I let it drain for a while.

Other's have reported finding the fairing bolts loose. "Not me!" "I will be lucky and not have to deal with that."
I had hoped that was the case but at 600 miles I found most of them finger tight, and one completely missing. I will be checking those every time it gets a bath.

Thanks to all on this forum for already saving me money. I probably would have just been lazy and taken it to the dealer to have the oil change if other's had not mentioned the ease. Also the access to the service manual makes doing the initial serve a breeze as it spells everything out for you to do.

Motorcycles are perfectly safe, as long as you don't fall off and you don't get hit by anything...

many years ago my son stripped the oil drain plug, even though we had a torque wrench. i also knew a guy who got a dealer oil change and on the way home the plug fell out. he stopped pretty quick, he claims but i told him to fight for a new motor. he said the dealer said it was fine. i said at 10,000 miles on the bike i would be waiting for something bad to happen. anyway, i always torque the drain bolt, wipe it with a clean cloth with alcohol and then blob some black rtv on the bolt and smear it up on the oil pan. it kinda like a cheap and dirty race wire solution. comes off pretty easy on the next oil change, but you can tell it was stuck on there good. gives me piece of mind.
