MIRRORS
05/18/15 12:41 PM

Had a minor tip over last weekend. My left foot caught some sand while backing up on a small incline in a parking lot. Scratched up the left mirror and the left belly pan pretty bad. The frame sliders along with my left leg saved the rest of the body work from any further damages. I'm probably going to replace the belly pans with the Bestem carbon fiber equivalents. My question is, because the OEM's are so pricey, does anyone have any recommendations for a replacement mirror? Are the OEM equivalents on ebay just as good as far as structure and vibration? The OEM's don't vibrate at all. Any help is appreciated.

Surely with all the drag racers and people using Pig Spotter mirrors, there should be some laying around in a garage.

My two cents worth.
Do not compromise for a few dollars...

Years ago I had my 2005 VFR800 go over off its stand with big damage.
I didn't want to buy OEM kit because of the price.
I bought copies including a left mirror.
Nothing fit properly. I had nothing but problems.
I ended up buying genuine Honda parts so it cost me even more in the end...

Quality, proper figment and peace of mind is definitely worth the extra IMO.

I know I will never fall for that old trick again.

But up to you...

Go with a bar end mirror and mirror blocks. Get the kind with the pivot hinge and the ball joint. You pay $16 for a Chinese set and they will probably send you two for that price. If you're interested, I'll see if I can dig up the url for the ones I bought. These are every bit as good as the CRGs I have for the 14. The hinge joint is not quite as stiff but other than that just as good and about equal in weight.

I'd just scuff sand the whole belly pan and spray a clearcoat on there. If it's through the paint, touch it up with some black before you sand. I'd take the belly pan and bracket off for a while and see how you like that.

Good save. Coulda been a whole lot more expensive to fix. Hope your leg is okay. It's worth sacrificing a little leg pain for a while, isn't it.

Rook - I've had bar ends in the past, & it's something to consider. Found they had some vibration at certain RPM's. Also was not fond of having to move my head to look down at them. I am toying with the idea of block off plates and no mirrors as I never trust them anyway and always check over my shoulder first.

The leg is fine. It was the base of my hip that took all the impact. Luckily I didn't break that. I was extremely sore & had a very hard time riding home. Few days later much better & riding again. Thanks for asking!
