I'd venture to say...IF a leo did see you tap your helmet, you don't REALLY think he's gonna pull ya over(do you?).Imagine the back and forth in court...with you and him present...explaining what each one was thinking or doing.Aint gonna happen. You have a MILLION reasons why you might'tap' your helmet. He's only thinking of one...should he even appear.Never heard of anything like this ever happening.Lots of states are amending their 'chase policy' concerning motorcycles as we speak. They're starting to back away from high speed chases involving bikes.FWIW

Normally,if a guy gets radared at say,10 over...the approaching police car will flash either his headlamps OR his light bar.Telling you to slow down. They don't want to risk a dangerous high speed chase with a bike. It's becoming that way.

Warning approaching bikers is NOT obstruction of justice. They'd have to prove it in court.Waste of money, waste on preparing a docket...court fees..all that.I think it's safe to tap yer helmet;)For now.Passing a LEO out there..they're generally running the speed limit...you take your chances passing one. Some might be fine with it...others..nope,yer gettin pulled over.(for speeding...depending).

I've passed a few...one guy lit me up...but didn't pull me over.I just backed out a bit...and continued on my way...slightly slower that is.You can always say....'rocks and such get kicked up in front of me when following any car..so I like to stay away from 'following'...that actually works...I know...I've had it happen. Here anyway..there are a lot of pebbles and stuff that get thrown up into the bike under certain circumstances.

You can argue all you want as you sign the ticket and head to court. Then you can prove why your innocent .

You people just don't get it a cop can write you a ticket for anything.

Couldn't you just? Let them walk right in it, bait them, pull the nihilism right out of them. I'm the bad boy here. I instigated it. You know, the more you think about it, Kruz, it's getting so bad around here, I'm about to order a tesla car, where there is a shorter waiting time than for a gun permit, I'll park it in the garage, roll down the door, turn the key on and...

Wow, I saw Hub posted, so thought I'd see what he had to say. Dang this thread got "heated". I can vouch for three states, CA, TX, and LA. They do not give a crap about you tapping your helmet. I have been seen in all 3 doing it. I'd guess 50 percent or less on bikes would even know what it meant. Seems most drivers, bikes and boxes, do not know that flashing your headlights at them means the same thing.

I have also been a "victim" of an on-coming LEO telling me to slow down. It has been headlights flashed at me, overheads turned on and off, and them waving their hand in a downward motion their window.

Its amazing how a simple question can digress here. Glad there are alot of good answers to go with the good questions.

Oh yeah, as for carry permits, all depends on where yall live. Here in Northern Cali, fairly painless process. Sacramento area, you're screwed. At least a year, if they approve it. I know some firearms instructors have been denied. Price we pay living in the Republic of Cali.

"Republic of California." You do know this entire country is a Republic, right?

You people just don't get it a cop can write you a ticket for anything.

I have to agree with that. Cops have discretion to write you or not and your guilt or innocence can be secondary.
