Love Spy vs Spy!

AH! But ... do you love them enough to buy a motorcycle shaped like them?!

I thought it was too angular looking when I first saw it too, but after a few weeks of looking at it and researching them the looks have actually grown on me. I even like the Spy vs. Spy comics, so I think the reference is cool! And with all the goodies the GT has......I think one could overlook the angular headlight :) It's better looking than the S1000XR, but not quite as good looking as the Multistrada DVT, IMHO.

As for price, that's what has me torn. A 14R retails for 14-15k and if you were to set it up like the GT with luggage, wind protection, heated grips/seat, Convertibars, extended stainless lines, electronic cruise control, etc. you'd be at or even OVER the price of the KTM. Plus you'd STILL be missing semi-active suspension, cornering ABS, Brembo M50 calipers, cornering LED lights, and more....plus the 14R weighs about 85lbs more than the GT stock vs. stock.

Not trying to derail the thread here, just spitballing ideas onto the wall. My favorite bike to this day is the 14R, and it's a tall order looking for a replacement. I'm even curious about when the third generation 14R will be revealed...

Re price, you can get a brand new 14 for $11,000: http://www.ebay.com/itm/162119957960

I doubt you'll get a big discount on a model as new as the KTM GT, but I don't know that.

I don't think the spy vs spy look is terrible, but I don't care for it. Too harsh.

The S1000XR is looks 'pretty' good, but again the front ... again, kinda bird beak looking. It's biggest problem for me is ... it's a Ducati. Oh and price.

Just some more spitballs ...

I agree with you on the price you can find on a 2.5-3 year old 14R (2014's) which is a heck of a deal!!! ...but it's apples to oranges if using it as a fair comparison.

2016 ZX14R = $15k msrp or $15.5k for the SE model right off mother Kawi's website. No 2017 model info/pricing available yet. I think the KTM will be released this fall as a 2017 model year.

Found a great deal on a '14 matte black but I've just never liked that color on anything. I don't want to get it just because it's such a great deal and always have the color bother me.

Exactly how I would look at it ... would always regret it.

My last one didn't have the suspension done and in hindsight I think that's why I wasn't able to really load the front end up with complete confidence. I'll be spending $$$ on that for sure. Debating Axxion cartridges and full-on ohlins forks at the moment if I can find them. Aftermarket shock too, this one will get the full treatment.

Auron - you should wait for the KTM 1290 Super Duke GT that will be arriving soon in dealers. Go test ride the 1290 R and get a taste of that beast of an engine with 106 lb-ft of torque and 180 horsepower, then imagine it with the comfort of the VFR. Heated grips, seats, cruise control, semi-active suspension, factory luggage, adjustable windscreen, and arm-stretching performance.

Looks like the wait is over. I keep looking at this KTM GT, too.

Then, I read the ownership experience threads across the pond. Nothin' to write home about, it's got it's fair share of problems, right now mostly around vibration transmission to the rider, on cycles with mileage that should have the vibes already damped out. This kind of issue keeps me from looking too hard at the new BMW 1200XR, all the write-ups talk about the bad vibration on that one.

So, you complained about similar on the VFR, and saw your way clear to 'nother 14R! ... Welcome Back!

So the deal fell through, dealer kinda forgot to mention $1000 in fees when we made the deal for 10,500 so I never sent the money. Truthfully I was relieved, buying the same bike twice is a gamble I feel so I bought a Bandit 1250 to hold me over and I'm going to wait for the next generation, assuming there is a next generation. Who know's if they are going to go turbo or add another 40lbs with more displacement. The current bike is as heavy as I can do.

Either way my Hyperbike days are not over, it's just not going to happen right now. And in case anyone's wondering, a $5,000 bandit 1250 is still a way better bike that that pathetic VFR haha

Bandit ... Ninja ... sheesh sounds like an international fight brewin'. I'm gettin' a lil nervous over here!

I guess Honda didn't put a name on the VFR1200 ... which is probably good cuz when they tried that with the CBR900RR ... Fireblade ... well that sounded a little too, um, ghey, to me.

Not that there's anything wrong with that?

I own both Bikes. I bought my 2012 ZX14r new in the color I wanted. 2 years later, I found a used 2007 completely kitted for touring and other upgrades. It had Suzuki/Givi 3-piece set and I loved the trunk so much I added one to my Ninja. I hot-rodded the Bandit and have 125HP and 84TQ, BUT it is NO ZX14r!
With a full tank of fuel, the Bandit is top heavy. Our Ninja has most of the fuel under the seat.
The ZX14r is so refined and balanced compared to the Bandit.
The Bandit does use Regular unleaded; has a very smooth engine(mounts)and great gearing. It needs a better seat and suspension. My Brother rode it for 10 days on our extended ride to National Parks and Beartooth Highway. He got 60 mpg in Glacier Park; 56mpg at 65 mph and 43mpg at 85 mph (corrected) following me across lonely Wyoming (highway 487).
