Had to work at a fast food joint for a while during college. Had to put up with idiots all day so I could afford to go home and study all night and repeat it the next day. Let's just say people like you 600 times a day...really isn't that funny. Take a second and really contemplate what it would be like hearing some idiot tell you a joke 600 times a day. ...you, me and about half of the rest of people who went to college or for one reason or another, worked as a crew member in fast food. I think the problem is that the job is among the lowest of status and workers sometimes become a bit sensitive or resentful about that.

I certainly didn't mean to insuate that the guy keep the pennies because he needs the extra money(and I am sure he didn't take it that way). Anyone who makes condescending jokes to a stranger right to their face obviously has no regard for that person at all. -and that's not just sad, it's a little bit scary.

Glad you moved up, Jesse but I think you are missing the spirit of the conversation. I am pretty sure that when I interact with someone whose job is to serve me, I treat them with as much respect as anyone else. Sometimes, i can tell they appreciate that. IMO, sharing a joke, if the opportunity arises, is one way of treating someone else as an equal.

I get that ALL THE TIME in my job....short by pennies(sometimes,way more).I always give em a break....guess what....my till hasn't come up short for God knows how long!Amazing.There's been instances where I paid part of their grocery bill....not expecting anything back.They ALWAYS come back at some point and graciously pay me back.Amazing!

This is the truth here...my till is ALWAYS OVER...even when helping someone out.

Jessie, I work in a job Now where I always get the same one liner. I have been hearing that same one line for 24 years so I get what your saying, but in most cases people are just trying to start up a convo and are not sure how to go about it. So I play along. Yes I'm sure there are some that just being a dick, but for that 10 seconds who cares. There will always be that guy, no biggy
