I had to make sure room in my garage so I filled the H2 with race gas and put her in my office for the winter.... I'm thinking I'll never have a bad day looking at this sexy lady....

Wow, that 1299S is gorgeous! It sounds like you may be needing a bigger garage pretty soon with the new ZX-10R coming into the fold. I am still working on my 959 suspension setup, the handling is .... well...different. I've settled in to using the recommended race settings from the owners manual with exception of taking out 3 turns of front preload to correct understeer on corner entry. Seems to have worked as yesterday, I was feeling a touch of oversteer in the lower speed corners but the high speed corner entries were fantastic! The Ducatis are amazingly fun bikes to ride with tons of charisma as you probably know but require a bit of an adjustment in your riding style to accommodate. The 959 is so skinny that I haven't found the sweet spot yet when hanging off in a corner, there's very little in the way of support from the narrow fuel tank. Excited to hear you will be getting the new 10R soon, I'm sure you are going to go full tilt boogey on the mods. I've chosen to leave mine pretty much stock with exception of the slip-on and tail tidy. The relative lack of low end requires riding it like a jumbo 600 Supersport which I find appealing. An ECU flash and full Akra system will turn it into a full blown cruise missile I am hearing. Post up the new bike pics as soon as you get it.

Oh my bad, I thought you were doing like I did and buying one of each, not sure where I got that impression from.
Congrats on the new 1299S, have you owned Ducatis before or is this the first?
Can't wait to hear your initial impressions of the new machine. I posted mine down further in this forum in the Ducatisti thread. You'll need to post on that one as well.
Jafo bought a standard 1299S also, haven't heard back from him in some time.
Best regards,
John

The new 10 is a sweet ride for sure!!!! I do love my 2011 and she's set up real well but I've heard great things about that 2016 10R! Love the look of them big time.
Well I got the call from my dealer yesterday that my new mistress came in! I went down to see her come out of the crate. All I can say is she's even better looking in person! So beautiful it's crazy....she's number 166. I'll post some pics as soon as I can. Going to pick her up the coming week when the weather gets better. I'm going to have to take a day off of work to get to know this girl for sure......
OK, I figured it out. I read these two posts done back to back and somehow connected that you were getting a new 10R as there was no mention of a Ducati. I was thinking you already had the 1299S parked safely in your garage.

Motero that looks pretty awesome, has all the race kit goodies already installed. Is it a street legal option or for track only?

Somefun, let me know how your new 1299S handles once you get it broken in and start pushing it a bit. The harder I ride my 959, the more handling compromises I am uncovering. I have it setup now and it handles brilliantly on smooth fast sweepers but it tends to come unraveled on the washboard turns which are plentiful in these parts. I have tuned the suspension about as much as I can and settled in on settings very close to the race specs found in the owners manual. Ride compliance in a straight line is good on these settings but mid corner bumps tend to unsettle the chassis. I think this is a characteristic of the rigid frameless design, there's little to absorb the bumps when leaned way over and the suspension is no longer acting in the vertical plane.

These guys nailed my thoughts on the 959 handling issues exactly:

I will for sure Kruz. I'm picking her up today at noon and going to play hooky the rest of the day to put some miles on her. :) Can't wait! I had a hard time sleeping last night. I'm not sure if it was because I'm picking my new girl up today or that fact that I didn't tell my wife about her yet! :)
I'll let ya know how that goes!

Fantastic, I think I just found the root cause of my handling issue on my 959.

Well I picked her up yesterday at 12:00 and went over the features with the service tec. OMG this girl has more setting than the Star Ship Enterprise! I told him I understood everything he said and took off for my first ride. Well it wasn’t 2 minutes into the ride that I realized I had no clue how to set things up after he had walked me through it. I rode her for about 60 miles and my initial impression was the bike had potential but need to be set up the way I like my bikes. I brought her home and adjusted the clutch and brake levers (angled them down) and then adjusted the throw. I lowered the rear brake lever so it wasn’t such a high reach and then installed a throttle kit to take all the slop out of it. The I set the 10,000 parameters in the three different riding modes. I went back out and holy crap! What a different bike! This girl is SO crazy! She’s a little high strung but so damn fast and the suspension is unreal. I found myself going 15 to 20 MPH faster on some roads I always hit on my 10R and H2 and this girl just wanted more and more. The faster you go the better she feels, like she’s begging for it. lol I can’t say enough about the suspension honestly. I have full Ohlin’s on my 10R and even that girl is nothing like this one. First and second gears are wheelie monsters for sure which I absolutely love……. I can’t wait to get some more riding time on her but 100 miles for the first half day is pretty good.
Oh yeah the wife actually drove in the drive way got out of her car and she wow very sexy bike and that was it! LOL

2011 versus 2016 ZX-10R, juries still out on which is the best, they're both awesome machines with specific strengths and weaknesses. The '11 is stronger down low, the '16 kicks it's butt beyond 9000 rpm.
