Throttle lock?
04/23/10 7:54 PM

I'm looking for a simple throttle lock for my 14. I have a throttlemeister on my BMW and don't really want one on the 14. I'm looking for one that locks with your thumb like the one in the link.
http://www.casporttouring.com/cst/motorcycles/NEP.html
has anyone used this type on the 14?? They don't list it for the 14 but I wan't to know if you made it work.
if you have a suggestion or picture of something else I'm all ears.
Thanks for the help.

I found that after time the TM would put friction on the throttle even when backed all the way off. I believe it was due to the grip stretching out on warm days. On cold days it is fine. It might be that the grips are old and need to be replaced. I’m just looking for another solution. I'm also not a big fan of the whole twisting the tensioner while trying to hold the throttle. Don't get me wrong I have done it thousands of times but I would prefer something easier.
Why do you think that this looks more unsafe than the TM? I might be missing something.

I don't know really-just the way it's designed I guess-kinda looks like it's a "clamp" deal-grabs yer throttle tube or something.IDK.My TM never worked right UNTIL...I reinstalled my stock clipons, and used the stock bolt fitting in the bar end. Then it transformed the way it locked and unlocked.Now-1/4 turn-she's snug(and no black washer in there-the plastic one)Locks good and no drama holding the throttle for adjustments-it snugs right away and releases just as easy.It did drag "just a bit"...but I just backed the bolt out a smidgen, and it was fine..Used to be I'd have to first, before riding, tighten the mount bolt in so the unit would be close enough to the throttle tube.A pain let me tell ya.THEN,I had to TURN the thingy SEVERAL SEVERAL turns(sounds like your deal, tryin to hold the throttle open while crankin on that piece before it would even hope to get friction to do it's thing.Nightmare!!!!!)It never would stay adjusted from one ride to the next.Had to carry an allen with me just for that!Redid my bar setup-reinstalled the TM.To my surprise(happily)it worked as advertised!Use it quite often now.IMO...it's the safest throttle lock out there. And the easiest to use.Like I said...only about a quarter turn now...throttle doesn't even move in that amount of turning).Just hold the grip with my two fingers and slide it locked with my palm.Very simple on mine. It's on your BMW yes?The 14 TM is made for our bikes-don't know if a Beemer TM would work right, even though it's a TM brand.I think I adjusted my throttle grip "out" towards the bar end just a hair as well to get the locker to seat snug to it when locked.

"I run those on all my bikes" I think you are talking about the NEP?
any chance you have a picture?
I'm good at making things work so I will buy it and give it a try if I know that someone else made it work and likes it. For $18.00 it's not a big deal if I don't like it.
Anyone else??

I've never used the throttlemeister, but I have the Kaoko and mine works terrific. It literally took me 2 minutes to install. I do recommend a little Loctite on that Allen head screw before putting it back in.

I just use two orings and it works great. Leave one in the gap and use the other to roll in and out of the gap.

I got my TM Heavy bar ends installed just fine with acerbis incerts on mine after the LSL bar conversion. I got them mostly for the weight which helps knock down grip vibration.

The throttle side took a lot of messing with until I got the acerbis insert the right amount into the bar and got the bolt snugged up good and tight. Now it works fine.

When its off, the throttle is completely free at the grip, when the TM is locked, the throttle is stuck in one position.

I used the bar end plastic insert which slides on the bar end under the grip, since I have foam grips. It works ok so far.

For those who have installed the cheaper NEP or VistaCruise, which model did you install and what did you do to make it work?

I need something and have used the NEP for many thousands of KM on the SV. It would be sweet if I can put one on the 14.

I have the Universal Vista Cruise and it's not a cheap hunk of crap. Installation involves making room for the clamp drum between the throttle drum and the housing and moving the m/c down the bar to make room for the fixing clamp.

Thanks guys, I'll like to try the Go Cruise but have foam grips. I'm not sure how it'll work with foam.

The Vistacruise is kinda interesting but I'll prefer it to be less obtrusive.

I was hoping to go with that flat piece of plastic like the NEP. Man I should have taken if off of my SV. I had it for over 130K Km and it was still performing flawlessly.

I had the vista cruise on a lower cc bike a couple back and loved it on that bike. I have the TM on my 14. In my opinion the grip type are not worth a crap on the 14. It is very hard to get it where you want it because of the power. I did a benefit ride with a bunch of harleys going up the expressway for two hours. By the time I would get it set we would be in the hills and I would have to start over. I very rarely use it because of that and will do an electronic CC when I get the time and sell the TM.

yellow caterpillar O-Rings work great, about $ 7.00 at any Cat dealer. Just measure the O.D of the bar end. I have a part# around here some where. Been using them for years.
