Engine Ice in Canada?
04/07/11 3:40 PM

I will be changing the coolant in my bike soon and have purchased a couple jugs of Engine Ice. It states that it provides freeze protection to -27F or -33C. It gets colder than that here in Canada when the bike is stored in unheated spaces. Is it worth the risk of a hard freeze for the benefits of the Engine Ice? Has anyone in Canada put it to the test?

Called them up and they said many guys use it in their sleds around here. Maybe I'm worried about nothin'? Still curious if anyone in my kinda weather has experience with it.

We hit -10F ambient once during the winter. I have a old plastic bottle with about an inch of Engine Ice left over from last winter. I know, I need to throw it away. It just isn't landfil material is all.

The point is, that little bit of Engine Ice didn't get the slightest bit sluggish or viscious on our coldest day. I'd check it every morning before getting in my car, since around 0300-0400 is the coldest time of the night here.

It stayed liquid completely.

I'm sold on it, using Engine Ice plus having two fans has changed the entire heat nature of my 08 ZX14.

If the makers say -25F, then maybe you better take them at their word. You could just drain it and leave it drained all winter, no? I did that the winter before the one we just came out of, and it didn't hurt a thing.

But we aren't nearly as cold here as you are.

Madmak I picked up 3 jugs of engine ice at universal for $21 total , haven't put it in yet but I might just drain the system for the winter to be sure it doesn't freeze.
