Motofab fender eliminator
06/13/10 5:25 PM

For those that have this - anyone else find the instructions insufficient? I'm having problems figuring out what screws need to come off and the included diagram SUCKS ASS!! My patience is wearing thin with this one because they're not clear about what I need to do about removing the old fender and I can't seem to figure out how to take the rivets out from underneath or screws from above. If anyone has any extra HOWTO stuff, I'd sure appreciate any help out there.

There are no rivits to remove unless you wanna transfer the bungie hooks over.
Just pop off the seat, unplug the lic plate lite. It's just in front of the cross brace for the frame rails on the left.
Lift up the ECU, DON'T unplug it, it's just held in place by two tabs and a rubber "bracket".
Once the ECU is out of the way remove the 3 nuts (10mm socket) that were under the ECU. The rear one requires a wrench under the fender.
The whole thing will now fall out.
Put the Moto Fab piece in the same three holes using the 3 bolts supplied and reuse the stock washers and nuts.

I did mine w/o the instructions in about 15 mins. Wiring in the new lic lite took 20 mins incl drilling the holes. Personally I thought the instructions would have been very clear and helpfull had I read them before I started. Then again as a German car tech I'm used to reading things like "colorless yellow fluid" WTF is that supposed to mean?

I cried because I could not wheelie. Till I met a man with no motorcycle....

I will. Here lately, it's just been so damn hot to do much of anything. Mid 90's with heat index of +100.

ok, so here is my dilemma.. this picture shows the two plastic clamps that you''re supposed to insert the LED wires into. After I do this, how do these plastic connectors connect to the piece in the foreground that originally connected the tail light? Am I supposed to splice into it somehow?

Thanks Erik. That's what I was thinking, but the part that still has me a little stumped is, after having connected the OEM fender's wiring to the LED wires via those small red crimper things - from the red crimpers to the harness plug mid-way in the seat (where the OEM fender light wires connected before). Do the red plastic pieces somehow connect to this plug and I'm just not seeing it?

Erik - you're awesome. Thank you ever so much. The harness gets snipped to be able to crimp those into the other side which is the missing piece of the puzzle for me. I'll do this part just as soon as I get home. Thanks a million!

Ok, well, I obviously wasn't smart enough to organize all my screws/bolts/nuts into their own containers while working on it all. I'm really impressed with the look of it and I'll try to post pics tonight when I get home from work. I just ended up missing one of the four screws that hold the toolbox onto the seat and somehow ended up with extra bolts that don't fit into the places I thought they were supposed to so I'm going to have my stealership order the ones I'm not sure about. Also, has anyone that has done this seen the tail piece wiggle a tad much for comfort after fixing it back into that rubber housing? This is the piece that fits directly over the tail light.

I ordered this kit yesterday, and Ted emailed me this morning saying he was putting it in the mail... wow... :)

Will install this upcoming weekend and report my experience. With this thread and all the helpful pics it looks pretty straight forward. I hate cutting harnesses like that, I will probably get some end caps that can be quickly connected and disconnected etc with one another.

loadedmind this is for you bud lol

Actually, I would've been better off using an empty egg holder. Sometimes I'm not so smart...

Actually, it helps tremendously. Thanks again! I believe the screw holding the cover (black one) was the problematic screw. Wasn't tightened enough. It did go through the rubber grommet hole, but was just too loose. Still need to order some more bolts, but at least I have a better idea about which goes where.
