Monster Top Box ....

.. Not really, but it looks that way

Actually, I've just completed my latest bicycle rack. This one is for a folding bike that's housed in an ABS plastic suitcase.

The luggage rack bolts to the existing top rack and at a separate cross support.
This provides a stable base and the luggage rack is easily removed for using the top rack.
The bike case bolts to the luggage rack, to complete the process.

The bike case is an inexpensive ($65.00US) Bill Blass Venture 30" whose combined LWH dimensions meet
the airline standard of 62". We'll be flying with two bikes to Oregon in June.

It's hard to believe all of this will fit ...

... but it does.

The hard case provides a lower CG, less overhang, better protection,
and greater storage. Having said that, many hundreds of miles on the Sprint and FJR have
resulted in no transport problems while allowing the use of any of my bikes, not just
a specific folder. It's all good !

It's all good !!

+1!

That's awesome, just awesome.

Do they make the bicycle in an off-road configuration?

As in, "I'm tired of motorcycleing cycling pavement, now its time to hit the trails! ... on my bicycle, that I just happen to have right here..."

For a moment I thought "WTF? Is that the kitchen sink?"

Does it make your ZX-14 handle sort of wonky? I once rode my ZZR 1200 with the top case full of a case of bottle beer and 2 bags of ice. Going around turns was.......interesting to say the least.

The Bike Friday above has no suspension, but you can buy 20" mountain bike tires for trail riding. Bike Friday's are made in Eugene Oregon. I'm running "slick" road tires at 95psi on mine. There are many other folding bicyle companies ... Tern, Dahon, Brompton, to name some of the better known brands.

However, you can carry a normal 26" mountain bike or 700C road bike on your motorcycle by using a Givi or SW-Motech pannier rack and / or a Givi / Sw-Motech top rack depending on the motorcycle.

You will have to fabricate a small aluminum tube bike rack along with a Yakima or Thule bicycle tray and lock. My ZX14R pannier racks are homebuilt.

Here's my Sprint with the setup described above ... Road bikes or mountain bikes fit equally well.

Here's an ADVrider link to bike racks I've made plus several made by others.

It should be illegal to put stuff like that on the back of a zx14 or any bike. I couldn't imgaine how shitty a ride that would be. My god if you need to bring a bike anywhere use your car for god sakes. Next we will be putting kitchen sinks on for people to wash their hands and face. Its a motorcycle go and just enjoy the ride baby!! Hey can you make one for my lawnmower too, incase i need to go cut my mom's house for her!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fortunately for me, it's not illegal and it rides just fine as long as you treat it as a touring bike.
I've been doing this safely for many years and many miles. I hardly notice that it's back there,
even in the twisties, and where I live, it's all twisties. That's a fact, not an opinion.
You however, can do whatever you like !

Its a motorcycle, go and just enjoy the ride baby!! Hey can you make one for my lawnmower too, incase i need to go cut my mom's house for her!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That pecisely what I'm doing. 95% riding in the twisties and 5% carrying bicycles, folding kayaks, and skis
... when the weather permits. Based on your childish demeaner, I reckon I was transporting bicycles before
you were born. Say hi to your mom !

Danno ... Does it make your ZX-14 handle sort of wonky? I once rode my ZZR 1200 with the top case full of a case of bottle beer and 2 bags of ice. Going around turns was.......interesting to say the least.

Think of the folding bicycle as a 30lb pillion passenger who's 12" tall. It handles similar to a bike with a top box.

Not quite ... See below !

No worries .... I enjoyed it !

I tend to do things that are a bit different than the norm. It would be a boring world indeed if we were all alike.

zx14racer - there are some good roads to ride in northern New Jersey! Get up in the mountains on some of those secluded back roads and have some real fun. Northwest corner of the state, just watch out for speed traps...

After 3 seconds of full throttle, everything else on the road becomes 'Oncoming Traffic'...

Wow werks I dont know what to say besides it's stunning. Its funny me and my wife always go on vaction to all these beautiful countries and you forget that in the old US of A there is plenty of places like that. If I had a place like yours I would have a crusier also and just enjoy the hell out of that. And ranger I hear you about way up north jersey. But anymore thats to far for me to ride by myself. After an hour or so I get bored riding by myself. I still love riding dont get me wrong, but I've been riding so long around here its not as exciting as it used to be. Now I just go out here and there to clear my head. I also work alot of hours.

Wolfman ... My next love after motorcycles is single trail MTB

I'm with you there. Here's my single-track bike sporting slicks and climbing a local mountain pass. This bike has the lowest gearing of all my bikes, and at 65 I need the lowest gear inches I can find to get up these climbs ! I just lock up the suspension for pavement. Tom

Due to the 1024 format, I'll post them as links. The 800 format of this forum chops them off.
