Camera mounting place
06/24/16 9:42 PM

I installed Ion Air on my helmet. I am wondering where and how I can install a camera on ZX14R. Chrly, please come to a white courtesy phone

Took me a while to find the phone but here is the pic.

I am amazed that these mounts hold..They are just glued on..

I have had about four Contours over the past few years and for me, they seem to do the best job if you consider all options. With that said, I have not played with any Hero except the very first one years ago and once I found the easy on/off of the Contour, I stuck with it.

I also have a contour mount on my swingarm. The back corner never quite stuck to the sharp rounded edge but all the rest is still totally reliable after 3 years. There is a lanyard on the Contour to so if it ever did come unglued, you would not loose it if tied up.

Chrly, thanks for the pic.

Rook, a good idea but does it take images other than back of your foot?

Yeah. I have only used it one time. Never used the GPS function. Don't even know how and forgot I had that. It can be used to record speed but I'm sure it has the same pitfall as ant GPS speed which is satellite lag.

Sure. It gets your foot but the lenses on these cams are usually pretty wide angle. You can adjust the GoPro's view range. IDK if you can with the Contour. I have Contour and GoPro footage edited together in this video. Sorry if I already posted on this thread but here it is again.

Rook.. I think you could turn the camera around and tehn rotate the lens and you would have great "where-I-was" shot..(If you do tho be sure and secure the camera because it will work it's way backwards out of the mount ;) )

I will have to try that. There is a screw hole for the chain guard that I tied the Contour to---shown in pic above.

zxkawi do you get a lot of vibration? I built a simple camera mount out of doll rods and it worked but the camera vibrated quite badly at the 4k buzzy point really bad.

Here is a video from a test ride, using a 360FLY camera on that mount.

I've been contemplating permanently installing a camera that records whenever the bike is on (like a dashboard camera) in case someone does something stupid like pull out in front of me (like last night). So I was wondering if anyone has tried hiding a camera somewhere on the bike where it would be more likely to survive a crash, isn't obvious so it wouldn't be easy to steal or the police wouldn't be able to use it against me if I got pulled over. :)

I was wondering if anyone has tried mounting the camera under the windscreen behind the instrument cluster or if there are other suggestions.

Could be done I'm almost sure but to practical, you would need to have remote control.

otherwise, inside ram air scoop. cover with mesh to conceal it. black tape the ON light.

a helmet cam would do the trick---maybe hidden inside a mohawk.

The features of the camera I had in mind would be weather proof, powered by the vehicle and would record in a loop (records over the oldest file when the memory is full) every time it powers on, so the only time I would need access to the camera is if there was an issue.

My 2 major concerns about behind the cluster under the windscreen is whether or not the camera could actually see well (its a tinted windscreen, but that could be swapped, etc) and space, its pretty tight behind there. I was thinking about possible cutting a small hole but didn't want water getting in to that area.

I was also thinking of the air intake, but not sure if that would have a significant impact on air flow. Guess all of this really depends on the overall size of the camera. The Contour camera that you have there Rook looks pretty small, but doesn't look like it can be powered by the vehicle and remain weather proof at the same time, nor does it seem to have a recording loop feature.

So Google came to the rescue, for anyone else who's thinking about doing this, this camera looks like it has a lot of potential, the recording device itself isn't waterproof, but they use remote cameras which are weatherproof.

Hey, if you use a steering stem mount, take it out after every ride. My techmount has o be removed by taking off the fender and inserting a dowel below the steering stem and tapping with a hammer. I think the orings swelled. Seems to keep getting tighter as the years pass. PITA
