CHEAP CHINESE ADJUSTABLE FOOT PEGS
01/15/13 1:15 PM

Saw these on Ebay for $38 and some change so ordered a pair from China. Went to install them and the mounting hole is too small to fit a 2012 ZX14R so had to drill them out. After that they mounted okay using the stock spring and bolt. They are fully adjustable 360 degrees by moving a very tiny pin to different holes in the mounting system. Easy to do but dont drop the small pin. The only real problem with them is strength. They are small and flex quite a bit. I would be afraid to stand up on them as I dont think they would support my weight. I think they would snap. For the time being I simply lowered them as much as possible and the riding position is much much more comfortable. In the near future I am going to rotate them a little towards the front too. Here are a couple of pics on my bike>>

Great idea someone had in China. I have ordered chinese Pazzo lever copies and I think they would have been just fine. I didn't install them because of scare stories that they would keep pressure on the clutch and allow constant slippage.
After using real Pazzos, I think the Chinese knockoffs would have worked just as well. Just didn't want to be the guinea pig.

Also ordered chinese axle sliders recently and they were not super cheap but they required a shim to make the rear one fit.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy this stuff in the future. Sometimes you have to rig it up a little to make it work but if the price is low, often it is worth it.

a company by the name of cycle pirates makes similar to the same foot peg set up. I have used them in the past.

They were not exactly cheap though, Ran around 90 for the set..

I considered a set of these pegs, but was wondering about their durability/quality. I do like to stand on the pegs and stretch once in a while on longer rides.

Of course, they did all the R&D and needed to recoup that in the cost of their product. The Chinese just take it and copy it. Thing is, I believe they often come mighty damn close to the original and the materials they mightbe a bit lower in quality but not significantly so.

I tead a thread last year about a guy who did lab tests on Chinese Pazzo copies and found them to be made of lower grade metal but overall they were just a tiny bit heavier than real Pazzos and the strength dif was not significant.

So LOOK OUT! It's a global market and we aint all playin by the same rules. Time the US start to play a little dirty itself. Look at BMW...copying Jap bikes to make the S1000. Why doesn't the US do that? Copyright and patent laws are such a bunch of BS these days. I say "copy what you want." The New Age is upon us. Quick, high quality copies are abundant.

I didn't see anything on the CP website about where their stuff is made. The mounts for ZX-14s are on sale for $50 and the pegs are another $45. Who's to say they don't buy their stuff at the same manufacturer in china and then mark them up? The pegs are much fancier, but the mounts look like the same thing. I don't really care for their blingy pegs. They look a bit too big around to me. They are 2 1/2 times the price and might be made in China anyway.

"Who's to say they don't buy their stuff at the same manufacturer in china and then mark them up?"...they didn't get that name fer nuthin!

One thing I'm curious about though...is that legal?Copying a part like an OEM...and then selling it?It must be...but someone pays for the engineering don't they?(I know..those pegs aren't OEM...but...some things you CAN get from China and such that are replicas of OEM parts)

It isn't illegal if it's done overseas. Patent laws don't apply there. In the US you might get sued or at least a court injunction order if the owner of the patent wants to spend the $$ to go to court.

I have a number of what I think are pretty cool aftermarket parts ideas that I could make myself and sell in a limited number and make a small profit. I have been advised that that is folly. As soon as someone sees it they will buy one and copy it to sell at a lower price.

China is on the record as saying they will not respect any copyright outside of China, everyone else does the R&D the Chineese companys get the dollars when they copy stuff. Japan did this in the sixties, reverse engineering they called it!

Although of a proprietary design, is there anything about these pegs that would actually be patent-protected if they were made by multiple companies here? Sometimes it has to do with how many lawyers the plaintiff can afford. There's really nothing new about how they are machined or engineered, so I don't think anyone's could sue over someone else making them.

A few years ago, Tandy Corporation (parent company of Radio Shack) sued an auto parts retailer over their name "Auto Shack". Tandy, being a multi-billion-dollar company from Texas, was successful in getting Auto Shack to drop the word "Shack" from their name, even they did not invent the word. Ergo "Auto Zone"

Some time after Harley-Davisdson bought itself back from AMF, they sent their lawyers around to all the little independent shops and told them if they painted their buildings orange-and-black, if they used a bar-and-shield loge, or if they used the words "Harley or "Hog" on their signs, The Motor Company would sue their asses off. The irony was, these small shops kept H-D going when their build quality was circling the toilet drain, and if not for them, there might not have been much to buy back. Then, after the Japanese (and Europeans, too) started building and selling V-twin cruisers, The Motor Company sued to have the single-crankpin V-twin motor and it's "potato-potato" sound patent protected. When the judge asked "Did you invent the single-crankpin V-twin motor?" and they admitted they hadn't, the case was tossed out.

So, would these adjustable pegs actually be classified as intellectual property? Might depend on how good the suitor's lawyers were.

Why not the US? There must be something other than motorcycles that Japan and China has developed. Why not copy them? LOL because we still would have to charge more than they do! What a FUBAR mess!
Everyone can just copy whoever, whatever they want. FREE FOR ALL!

Round pegs hurt.

I thought they might too, especially w/out rubber pads but my Vortex are fine on my feet and great for moving around forward and back on the bike

You ride different type of riding from me, though. Try doing 600 miles on them....

Ordered a set of those for my 2012 Zx14. I'm very happy with them. Put about 2k miles on bike since installed. i'm only like 190lbs suited so haven't noticed any flex in pegs and i like the extra grip on foot pegs. I do a lot of sporited street riding. Stock rubber peggs lost grip and worn out quickly. made sure to locktite all bolts tho! I did also order the cycle pirates adjustable brake and shift levers. So for around 150.00 bucks i have a fully adjustable set.

Round pegs don't hurt! I can do 500 miles on mine, and refuse to do 600 on anything with 2 wheels.

The thing that hurts is how high I have them in relation to my long legs but for slabbing I set them low. Sporty street riding I go up one notch and all the way up and back for track. There is no way I can scrape these when there are in track setting!

No, which is why the pivot of the OEM footpegs is a nice feature but irrelevant for sport riding positions. the bike will lowside before the rearsets touch.

I bought a set and the quality is very good.
The only problem i have is my big feet and in the lowest position I have trouble changing gear.
Was also a bit of a problem with the oem pegs, but not so much so I am going back to standard.
If any one wants a set front and rear in oz pm me.

I also got a set of adjustable shift and brake pedals from cycle pirates to go along with the foot pegs. I have done over 6k miles with both installed. May also help with your problem. Your text to link here...
