Reading DFI Historical FI error codes
10/21/23 11:35 AM

Hi all,
I have a recent intermittent FI error while riding. It only stays on for a few seconds while riding and the ability to retrieve the two digit codes while rides has proven impossible. The manual indicates codes are stored in the ECU and retrieval according to the manual “The problem history can be referred using the KDS (Kawasaki Diagnostic System) when solving unstable problems”
Can anyone tell me if there a way to get the code myself? Thanks.

Don't know if the aftermarket addressed a download for the kawasaki. That would be a dealer tool to find out. WATT illuminates on the dash? A single light? Does it blink the water temp area? Can you see the gas gage bar blink like the water temp? The center part of the dash sort of cycles a new screen and an on/off kind of blink occurs?

When the code clears it says it's not a sensor going bad. Can be two things. One is a loose connection, the other is normal cycling of the ECU.

It's all about timing the dash, meaning, as soon as I see it, kill the engine at the switch, coast to a stop still with key on, then hold down the two buttons [trip/mode] together and wait for a code number to appear. No light saved on the kill, don't bother.

Thanks for the response. Your first one was a bit cryptic. Aftermarket what? The symptoms are LED reads FI ERROR and a red light flashes in the upper left quadrant of the display. The problem started after (not directly) I installed a GIPRO ASTRE/shift display. The maker of that suggested resettting and relearning the gears which I will do first. I have already visually checked the connections. Thanks again.

The cryptic is to stop a phantom code from erasing itself, thus nip it at the bud. Bingo >> aftermarket called GIPRO.

There is your problem. Notice the code goes away? It says it's not the bike having a cough due to codes.

Blinks/Holds at the upper left quadrant:
Red - oil pressure, battery, water temp, immobilizer.
Can use the SEL for other mode still read at the left quadrant.
Yellow - FI, KTRC.

WATT wire [instructions] are you using off the bike to hot the GIP? Yes, I would try the relearn sequence. If you induced a locked 6 or locked 1 at the OEM's shift window, then yes, this is going to code the bike. No code shown there, then not a problem the bike phantom codes and clears.
