metal 2 use 4 electric contacts
12/01/09 4:20 AM

Hey, Hub.......I've been thinking about making my own electrical contacts to hook up my Autotune module because I would rather not tap or cut the wire I intend to draw power from. The power source will be the conector under the seat for the license plate lamp. I was thinking of cutting out a tiny metal tab that could slide in the socket with the wire from the Autotune attached with a screw. It would then be taped up to hold it in place and insulate it. There is a positive and a negative wire in the connector so I am thinking it should work for both the power and the ground of the Autotune.

I was looking at an electrical wall socket in the hardware store and I see it has metal contacts that already have a screw to attach a wire. Think it would work if I removed those and cut them down to fit the connector under the seat? Any other suggestions?

Thanks. Great suggestions. I might end up using that. The autotune does have quite a long wire and it might just make it from under the seat to the horn without attaching a jumper to lengthen the wire. I am kind of stuck on that license plate lamp connector because it is sitting 5 inches from the Autotune module just begging to have something hooked up to it.

Thanks Hub. Like that soldering idea to make a contact to fit in the receptacle. Also, I will have to scope out what's going on back there to see if i can find that single, white, female receptacle to nowhere. I already have the license tag light connector removed with the rear fender. There is a good chance i will be hooking some wires back up to it to power aftermarket LEDs for license plate illumination.

Found some crimp on electrical contact plates. They fit right in the connector and there is a spring clip inside the connector that holds it pretty secure. I'll be taping it anyway.

This is the clear boot with the white connector inside the cover photo. Not enough light to see that boot, but it's the only clear boot that is just an orphan for something else they use on maybe the Euro model, ABS, or the keyless recognizer something? Either way, you are covered on a hot side at the horn or at that clear boot in the back. Have at it.

I found a connector that looks just like that last night. It's under the tank on the rear brake side but it isn't an orphan. It has a couple wires going to the brake pedal. I suppose it's for the brake light or maybe the one in your photo is not the same one I found.

Don't worry about it. I can't believe how much that sort of thing has happened to me. You know, I really think using the internet makes the problem worse. False memories of things you think you did but you are just learning for the first time. Too much info to process fully.

There may not be a free floating plug with a hot side, and if not, "use the rear brake light switch if the running light connector is too big a hassle to connect into or vise~verse." Thanks, Rook!

The running light connector worked very well after I crimped on some small contact plates to the ends of the wires I needed to hook up. I just taped it up and it's good for as long as I want it.
