Got some depressing news last week from the bone doctor, radiology report prognosis was delayed or non-union at the fracture site. In laymen's terms, my fracture is not healing after over four months..not good! They have me on a $3000 home care machine called a bone stimulator that uses combined magnetic fields to generate small electrical (induced) currents in the fracture site and stimulate new bone growth....at least that's the theory, we'll see how it works. I'm rapidly losing faith in the medical field.

Hang in there John. I'd say give it another 6 months and see if there is any improvement at all. If not, then decide if / when you want the hip replacement. You're doing fine with the rod in the femur now. You could also take the extra time to investigate other possible solutions. Maybe you ask about reinforcing the bone to eliminate movement between them so that the pieces would join.

Bone growth stimulators typically produce good results, at least the implanted ones do. I'm not familiar with the one you referenced but if your not satisfied with your doctor fire him! There are plenty to choose from unless your insurance is dictating where you can go. Also an MRI of the affected area can demonstrate boney edema that CT can miss. Not trying to play internet doctor here but ask questions, be involved and if you don't like the answers your getting move on. It's your life and your leg and they work for you....

The manufacturer claims very high fracture union rates but who knows?
