On my previous bike a zx11, to check the oil I had to warm up engine, turn off, wait 10 minutes then check sight glass, after more time the oil would disappear due to the shape of the sump, on my zx14 is this the same or does the oil stay in the right place?

check it stone cold on a very level surface with the bike held upright, as long as its between the lines its good to go.

Oil expands a great deal when warm/hot

^^^ takes hours to run back to the crankcase level after it has been run. Col check and perpendicular and level. hand on seat, knee against exhaust, feel for balance, bow down and view the glass. you probably will want a helper the first time you do this. One member sits on the seat and balances then takes a pic of the site glass.
