under tail kits/ answers
04/15/11 3:29 PM

I just removed the OEM license plate bracket and was going locate the plate down the under tail. Someone was telling me i need to buy a new aftermarket under tail to make it work? Do i really need to do that or can i just try and put something down in those wholes so water/road debris doesn't get up in the rear?

you dont need an undertail. my undertail mounted the plate in pretty much the same place. just make damn sure when you start drilling up in the seat compartment that you dont drill into any vital parts,wiring,ect....

Thank you, i was thinking of using the existing OEM one but trying to use the old holes for mounts. I also thinking about being different. I've used those plate brackets but i dont feel like paying 60$ for a piece of metal. So i think i might drive by Home Depot and get a couple of L brackets and bend them where i want the plate to fit. I dont plan on doing any drilling! cant risk hitting the stuff you were talking about.

You cant see the brackets but they were 1/2" wide by 1" x 1" angles, depending on your plate you could use the two original holes and block the third hole with silicon or all three holes with silicon if ya not sure take the toolbox out the ECU just has tabs on each side so as not to accidently damage them ! I just purchased the piece from Muzzy that replaces the stock fender. It bolts into existing holes, and uses the stock license plate light. Easy, effective, cheap.

I looked at the swingarm plate location... it looks nice but to much work to just have the plate down there.

Privateer, its a piece of metal that you can hook up to your swing arm that you can relocate your plate. Just google it and it will come up. I've seen them before and thought about it but i'm tired of paying like 50 dollars for something that i can just make at the house myself or use regular brackets.

Thanks for the help, but i actually went ahead and used that weird shaped thing that sits on my shoulders. I took all OEM stuff down and just bought two L brackets from Home Depot. I pained all the bolts/washers flat black to match the OEM undertail. I dont see the point in spending 100$ for something i made with 5$.Maybe down the road once i've decided to turn my baby into a trailer queen i'll go back and change it all up.
