Adjustable shift lever
02/09/09 9:06 PM

Anyone know of an adjustable shift lever other than the Cycle Pirates model? Moving the stocker up a spline makes it too high and stock is a bit low for my size 13 feet. The cycle Pirates piece is too bling-y billet-y bullshit-y. If all else fails, it may be the answer though.

Just to get the last word in on this slammin' thread, Cycle Pirates stopped making the adjustable shift lever anyway. It seems I'm the only clod who's got any issues with the lever angle.

I don't know about just an adjustable shift lever other than the complete rearset replacements available.

I am wondering if the new Concourse's would fit, it is adjustable, I just don't know how it would attach on the foot peg end.

I am lucky, with my Alpinestar boots lowerng the stock lever 1 spline worked great for me!

Wow....the thread is ALIVE! Posted that a while back and gave it up for dead figuring that I must be the only one with issues. I'm going to look into the Concourse part. I've got the exact opposite problem from you; I would like to be able to have the thing about a half spline higher. Both my Alpinestars and my Sidi's are a little hard to work in under the pedal for upshifts.

Cycle Pirates stopped making the fully adjustable pedal which was a little too flashy looking anyway, and at the moment no one else seems to do it. I'm not really interested in full rearsets so I may just mill .25 off the top of my foot. Ducati makes a shifter that has an eccentric adjuster at the pedal end that would be tits but the chances of it fitting are low.

The Concourse has linkage which would require different rearsets which probably wouldn't bolt up to the zx. I'm going to check anyway, what the hell. Good suggestion anyway, it got my attention.

JayFell:

I've been looking for a long time for some riding boots/shoes that would be thin enough on top so that I could "feel" the shift lever with my foot. Haven't found any. I ride with tennis shoes (I know, I know -- but if I ever fall it'll be all over, anyway).

I just can't stand fumbling around for the shift lever with a boot that's so massive that I can't feel it... -bg

There is no greater guarantee for a missed upshift than having some unintentional preload on that shifter. My Alpinestars are better than the Sidi's but not by much. A pair of steel toed engineers boots need a shoe horn to get them in under the shifter and I've noticed on my Sidi's that the wear pattern on the boot is more on the inside edge of the foot than I would like to see it, i.e. I'm upshifting more with the side of the ball of the foot instead of the top. But keep in mind I wear 12.5 or 13's, depending on the boot.

After I bought the bike literally the first time off of it had me going for the toolbox to raise the pedal one spline. Twenty minutes later it was back in the stock position and nine months of compromise. It's the ONLY ergo issue I have with the bike.

Right on, ninjamaster. I should have thought of scoring one on ebay, doh! Ducati as well as a Laverda I saw once makes a lever that has an eccentric adjustment in the footpeg part of the piece. You can rotate the peg and raise or lower it, I'm guessing, about 3/4". Which would be perfect. Definitely post a pic if when you can.

Do you find the lever too low?

I've been looking around over at SCHNITZ RACING and found an adjustable foot peg similar to what you mentioned. Maybe it would do something for you to make it fit your needs.

Wow; that might be perfect and it looks like you could drop the peg lower than stock which would effectively raise the shifter. And it would have the benefit of increased legroom like the Buell peg mod or the Corbin kit. Am going to look into this seriously. And seriously thanks.

I just got the latest MOTOSPORT catalog in the mail yesterday.
They have a Yana Shiki adjustable shift & brake lever in chrome or black for the ZX14.
$80 & $85
I looked on line and they aren't listed (or I just couldn't find them).

Give them a call. Their motocode # is ZQBRSC

And I thought that this thread was dead. It's looking like there's going to be a solution to the problem here. That Schnitz peg setup and the Yana Shiki pedals would allow dropping the pedals AND messing with the shifter angle and from looking at the other ones they make, the length of the lever itself.

Thanks. This is why this forum rules.
