Powerlet mount
12/19/15 7:05 PM

I didn't want to cut anything, and I needed a location that would allow me to plug my Sena 10R into, which also happens to be a convenient spot for a battery tender and plugging my electric vest in.

The rear exhaust hanger has a black 'knob' held in place with an M10 socket head cap screw. It doesn't appear to be used for anything, so I figured that would be a good location. I fired up GibbsCAM at the machine shop I work at and designed something I thought might work. The mount is keyed, so that the plastic cap cannot rotate.

Next I loaded some cutters in our old Matsuura RAIIIF CNC milling machine, along with a chunk of aluminum and started cutting. I didn't have the right angle cutter, so I used a ball nose endmill to create the sloped sides

Here it is after bead blasting and being mounted to the exhaust hanger. I'll send it for anodizing in a couple of weeks. I made one for each side. You can also see the original 'knob' on the inspection granite.

And here it is loosely mounted to the bike. It's a little crooked in this picture, but that's just because it's loose.

(Just in case anyone is wondering, the hugger is from Puig)

That's awesome. I was into bracket making last winter. I sure wish I had access to a CNC carver.

That's sweet lookin! Nice work. What color are you going to anodize?
That location I believe is the mount point for the center stand grab handle option. I used that location for a rear facing video mount.

I searched, but couldn't find the OP in the forum's list of current users.

With that said, would anyone be interested in making a couple of these mounts?

I would like to put a bracket on the left-hand side of my bike for a Powerlet Socket, exactly as pictured by the OP.

On the right-hand side, I would like to mount a DC Coax Jack for heated gear. I think the DC Coax Jack has the same dimensions as the Powerlet Socket, but will need to measure to make sure.

Let me know what you machinists think, as well as a cost estimate. Thanks for your time and consideration!

I use to make one off parts for the boat at emachineshop.com. You download their sw, design what you want, pay and it shows up at your door in a few weeks.
