Great road! Thanks for the pics! Been on it a few times with the SUV, camping trips.
Always wanted to ride on it. Last year I put together a nice route from the Los Angeles area that included the 12. I only made it to Beatty, Nev. after going through Death Valley. Second morning out the winds hit at gusts of 70 and steady 35/45 MPH. Wanted to make it to Cedar City for my next stop but forecast was for one more day of hard winds. I barely got out of Beatty and turned around really bummed. It would have been my first long distance trip on a bike.
The 14 REALLY catches wind and just 10 miles of riding leaning against the wind was it for me. I hope to try again some day. I thought my biggest worry would be rain (I hate rain) so was surprised that wind stopped me. Never rained a drop on the whole route I wanted to ride (just HAD to check the reports). Really glad you enjoyed it. Sometimes there's loose gravel here and there on the 12 so you have to watch out for the radiator.

By the way, what bar and bar kit did you go with?

Kak, I did'nt put a bar kit on my bike (yet), but I've got heli and genmar risers stacked on my 14. I'm still thinking of putting the Lsl bar kit on it though.

OK, thanks. Looked like a bar kit. Two sets of risers...Were you able to use the stock brake line or did you get a longer one? I have one set of Genmars and my brake line has no slack left. I doubt another 1" would be enough anyway.
I just can't make myself buy the LSL kit. I know the comfort would be much better but the kit and new bars just don't look right. They "stick out" and just look funny, to me. Gotta admit I hate getting numb hands especially when going downhill for longer lengths of time. Really bad. I wish someone would come out with a compromise like 3" up and 2" back. Might be enough and still look right on the bike.
Thanks again for the pics. Got me dreamin' again. I like Utah. Might move there in a few years when I retire. Kanab or ?
If I was able to continue my ride, after the 12, I was going to take the 24 to Hanksville and then head down the 95 toward Blanding. The 95 would be great on a bike. Not real twisty but big sweepers and high speed if you want to chance it. About 15 minutes before the 95 ends there's an area called "Comb Ridge" that's a huge right and then left sweeper. Just for fun I took the little Kia rental car through part of it at about 100 and my son told me to back off. So much fun we turned around and did it again! Can hardly imagine what it would be like on the 14! "Trail of the Ancients" is out that way too. Great scenery. Sorry for rambling.
