Brake lines
10/18/14 11:33 AM

I'm planning on installing some different bars and need help locating a longer brake line, I have a 2013 with ABS. The line I need is the one going from master cylinder to distribution block at the base of the fork yoke. I currently have a 1" riser and I had to unbolt the block and move it up about 1/2-3/4" and then zip tied it in place. The bars I plan on ordering do not have an extended brake line included. Any suggestions on where to order just the master cylinder hose? Thanks in advance for any help!

Look at the lower left [single] brake line. That's just one length so the ABS side fitting into the block is going to be screwed into that end. The other end should be the same banjo diameter and you can match that by bringing in the kawi crush washer. If both the honda crush is the same ID then you are hooked up with a honda hose and crush washers.

14.00 + .90ea = $15

Or we heighten via pipe/hose/pipe:

67.00 + 12.00 + 12.00 + 1.67ea = $93

Or we NAPA:

Assorted brake blocks/metric steel lines, in lengths, on a rack> go look around. Bring your master's hose and that shows both ends they come up with something in the back or you find it on the rack. Made a steel brake line running from right foot peg master to rear brake via harley chopper and their old brake drum setup. Napa came thru with every piece! Little bit of the old style. I think I'd try NAPA first.

I'd suggest you go with a two line aftermarket system instead of the OEM 3 line config. Two line has a double banjo under the master and you have one line to the left caliper and one to the right. No junction block, no short line going up and over the fender to the left caliper. Easier fender removal and better looking IMO. What is usually used on track bikes, probably a bit safer because each caliper has it's own line.

You should be able to find most brands of brake lines in two or three line config. I like Spiegler lines but for a real weight loss, go with kevlar lines by Goodridge. Also saw Fren Tubo lines in braided kevlar (I'm sure there is a rubber hose inside)....I'd go with all kevlar instead of steel braided. My Goodridge lines have held up perfectly well for 20k miles

Hub and Rook, Thanks for the suggestions!!! Hadn't thought about going to a two line configuration, great idea!

Haven't been to NAPA in a long time and you're right, they can usually come up with just about anything!

Thanks again for the great ideas!!!

Welcome, Rk. Say if we were not with ABS, I'd run Rook's setup and would suggest a 2 line replacement, but since we have ABS, we cannot loophole those blocks. But by using a remote block and line fitting so we have the 'ABS back on line,' whereas it won't work with the dual lines and extended banjo bolt, obviously. Remember that we are stuck with the blocks and lines just to raise that one hose off the master.

Today was my lucky day!!! Talked to the parts guy at my local dealer yesterday and asked him to see if he could locate me an extended hose for my front master cylinder, called me back today. Seems there is a company that wants to start making stainless braided lines for the ZX. The company said if I would send them ALL my lines to use as patterns they would send me a completed set for FREE!!! Two days to ship, two days to return, and about 24hours to build the lines, said they would make them any length I want.

Kind of a NO brainer, oh hell yes I’m gonna send them my lines! The weather is pretty crappy here now so it’s the perfect time to have my bike down, guess the biker gods were smiling on me today!!!

Think I’m gonna go buy a lottery ticket, ya never know!!!

COOL! Can't argue with that deal. LOL had a chance to get my water hoses copied by Samco a couple months back.. I pay to ship insured to Britain. that pretty much made it a loosing proposition. Too late, already had the pipes off. Have to buy some new coolant now. Screw 'em. I just sprayed the OEMs with PlastDip and they look great.

Ever wonder why these companies don't just buy a set of OEM parts and copy them instead of ask for donor parts?
