question for you double stackers
06/24/10 2:10 PM

I just installed my helis on top of the genmars. The left side is a perfect fit but the throttle cables on the right hit the fairing/windscreen at about 3/4 full lock when turning left. I rotated the throttle cable up almost 90 degrees and it will just touch the fairing but the throttle cables are very tight where they come out under the tanks. I cant pull any more slack. What did you do for extra slack? All the other cables and lines are fine.

Make or find longer throttle cables. She is all she wrote from throttle bell crank to the grip. That is one straight routing and I would assume another inch more would free up all the banging and stretch.

Geez...here we go AGAIN....WTF HUB?
Sorry, but I can't let Rebus go off thinking he's got to redo his cables with something HE AINT GONNA FIND!The cables will fit Rebus.....OKAY Rebus....here ya are.....Note the one pic of your Helis/Genmars together. It MUST be Helis in first,Genmars on top.Your cables will fit perfectly. You MAY have to slightly reroute at the throttle area to get the right angle....but they WILL fit.You see how mine are.If you do it just like the pic...you'll be good to go.And yes,the reservoir MAY lightly contact the screen/fairing interface a bit,but nothing to worry about. You just tweak yer resevoir some and you'll get er to clear no problem(DO NOT GRAB THE RESERVOIR TO BEND THE BRACKET!Use a set of pliers and gently bend the bracket where you need it to be).The cables will contact the upper fairing at the windscreen...but it's minimal and won't damage anything(the actual cable will be protected by the cable sleeve...that rubber deal holding both in the same angle). You can back that last upper windshield bolt out just a bit as well...that'll give yer cables a tad less rubbing(may not even need to do that?).

I would suggest that you follow someone(anyone) who has DONE these mods...rather than listen to something else. This IS the internet...who knows what people are doing?

Hub is wrong again, blue is right. With my LSL conversion (which is more up and back than your stack) I had no problems at all with the cables.

Unlile blue, I rotated my throttle assembly at the handgrip. I have mine underneath now because it worked better lock-to-lock.

I was gonna say....I had a 7" pullback, and a 4" rise. The throttles fit perfect with that combo..but like you Privateer,I had mine rotated as well. The GEN/Helis are WAY closer than those Superbike High bars I had.So I know the cables have to fit.Mine did.

I have it genmars then helis. I will swap them. Does your throttle cable hit? Mine rubs the fairing/screen. I rotated them backwards, so i need to go forward?

The throttle rubber fitting will gently rub at full left turn.It won't hurt anything.Your fairing/screen where it rubs will flex just fine(just try to get the "rub" at the minimum position possible). You can rotate them to almost any position as long as it's safe to do so.You don't want your cables to be binding at any position. After the install, start your motor...turn the bars full left, then full right. There must NOT be any increase OR decrease in engine speed. You MAY have to reset your cable adjusters a bit,I can't remember now.You know, throttle free play and throttle return action.Probably not,but maybe.

I just got through swapping them around. I didnt think it mattered but now I have enough slack and after rotating the cable assembly up a little more I can now turn full lock with it only slightly touching.

I have the risers on, buell footpegs done, gel grips ordered, ordered an airhawk cushion yesterday and new tires in the garage. I am almost ready for my 1500 mile trip in a few weeks.

Thanks again blue.

No prob!Be safe and have a BLAST on yer trip Rebus.

I gotta ask though....."make or find some longer throttle cables".....I'd like to know just exactly HOW a guy goes about "making longer cables" for a zx14? This must be one o'those deals where..."if I tell ya,I'll have to kill ya....it's an industry secret"

Hub is wrong again, blue is right.

Priv,

Yes, I twisted my throttle housing, no longer have the locking tab, I have the screws real tight so the pin that is not there; I modified from stock and that replaces that move. Call me right, I do not harm or destroy a well engineered part, I just had to bust this off it's my bike to bang and break and blue is right to bust off parts too.

No, I had enough twist, I still have the pin where if a screw loosened up, I could safely get home with the pin in still in position. Call me wrong, I never modify the engineering like change a tensioner that is an oil assist mechanism that will make noise on start up, I understand the engineering.

Now the ball is back in your court, priv. Yes you modded a switch assembly. No you did not harm an OEM part is a perfect take off, no harm no foul we are will veer write or wong is pull it out cause someone is going to get a dickslapping.

After my ride to work this morning I have to say the comfort level is drastically improved over stock. It almost reminds me of my fz1 sittings position.

Yep, it took that much time to numb my arms once again on the 2010 I borrowed. I ride mine with that tiny rise over stock and the numbness is not to be had if I could ride all day, I'd complain about the power instead.

If your too old, weak and or beat up to be on a super sport those risers wont help and if you want to improve the handling take them back off.

^^^^^ WOT he, [rebus] said. Improved my handling. No... "arm-pump in the 2nd moto." What fucks up handling is extended swinging arms, ass speck as much with a tire too and forking you forgot the drop on the squat that pings the oil drain plug off the pan sooner >>> Not a rise in a handle bar 1/" we have a handling problem.

Ride with them on for a while and then take them off and go hit some corners, then you will know grass hopper!

thanks blue, I have the genmar risers on mine and really like them. Will probably buy some heli's just to see how they are when I stack them up. glad to know that it is doable if I want.

I just added the Helis under my Genmars. I didn't have an issue with the throttle cable length but I didn't like them hitting the fairing at left lock. I removed the housing and drilled another hole for the locking pin and turned the housing upside down. With a quick rerouting of the cables it seems to be working well. No binding, quick return ect.
Now nothing touches the fairing when I turn, and the throttle is still locked into place with the factory tab.
This seems like the best solution and was easy to do. I'll try it for a while and see if there are any issues.
