MAD AUSTRALIAN RIDER WITH PLAN SEEKS RIDING COMPANION

When I purchased my '94 GTR1000 in July 2013 I never realised what was about to happen. I became addicted to riding long distances and somewhat addicted to Kawasaki Inline 4's.

I purchased a 2010 ZX14 with some tasteful modifications six months ago.

I've ridden the GTR 37,000 km and the ZX14 10,000 added to this in April last year I did a 14 day coast to coast across USA on a Harley (5000 km).

This leads me to the reason for this post.

Inspired by the Iron Butt Rally in the US I got to thinking about whether it was possible to do such a thing here in Australia, obviously our highway network is a far cry from that in the US where these guys can ride the concrete slabs all day at around 70-80 miles per hour and not be breaking any laws, not to mention the easy availability of fuel 24/7 and the huge amount of 24 hour hotels right alongside the interstates.

Then of course there's the potential for roadkill, which means high sustained speeds in many parts of Australia is not sensible from dusk till dawn.

So the bottom line is that while it is not impossible to ride 11,000 miles (17700km) in 11 days here in Australia, it would be unlikely you could do it without losing your license many times over.

My plan:

Ride clockwise around Australia in 14 days. This would involve 12 days of riding 1200 -1600km per day and allows for 4 x half days (48 hours) of extra rest / mechanical stops / tyres etc.

See the map for a suggested route (at least going through all the state/territory capitals (except Tassie) I'd be willing to add Tassie but that does involve 9 hours on ferry each way so eats a lot of time.

My plan would be to sleep when tired (swag/tent) and probably every second night stay in pub/motel, anticipating between 5-8 hours of sleep in each 24 hours.

Would anyone here be interest in this whole trip or part of it ?

I really would prefer to have a companion from Perth to Darwin, Darwin to Cooktown, but I'm open to any suggestions.

If you only wanted to ride for a day or two I'd be happy to hear about interesting roads like the ones north east of Perth I was put onto by the ZX's previous owner, that was a good day of riding down to Esperance.

I'm pretty sure I will be riding the ZX14 on this journey, but you never know I might take the GTR. Depends on the final plan.

Send me a message if you are interested and I'll give you my phone number dinplug@hotmail.com

Cheers,
John
