Just a dream...
When riding your bike... If you don't look where you're going, you'll go where you're looking.
I was remembering my first motorcycle. Thought I'd share it with y'all. It was 1961
I took a 20" Bicycle BMX type frame and removed pedals, chain, sprocket, brakes, and bearings. I had a plate made, 6x6x1/4", with bracing, and had it welded to the frame. I put it just above the hub for the peddals, parallel to the ground. I mounted a Briggs & Stratton lawnmower motor on the plate with the drive axle going out sideways. I put another plate on the seat post tube, about half way down and mounted a transverse jack shaft, with sprockets on each end. I put on a centrifugal clutch and made up a chain to go back to the jack shaft, and another chain back to the bike's original sprocket. Although at this point it would offer good opportunity to adjust gear ratio and speed, at that time I didn't have a clue. I went 1:1 on the shaft and figured I would work it out later. I ran a piece of string arount the steering neck and to my thumb, and put some old deck shoes on my feet for brakes. I was going to install racing bike brakes later, but I just had to test the motor and drive. I started it and with a pull on my thumb it was off! Good speed at part throttle. Acceleration was good too,... wow this is great. OK faster and bigger loop around the parking lot... leaning on corners... faster... and suddenly I was looking at the wall of a building on one side of the lot. I had to turn (lean) more so as to not drift out into the wall. It was like coming into a corner too Hot... and I was frozen looking at the wall coming at me. And, you know, I did go where I was looking. I glanced off the wall, hard, and slid on forearms and knees several feet. I was AFU, totally! Body Armor...? What's that? Faulty brakes? no I never tried to use them.
I had to dress my wounds myself because I didn't want my Dad to call me Stupid. I knew I was and didn't need him to agree!
