Best windscreen for top speed
04/10/15 2:32 PM

Anyone familiar with aerodynamics know what windscreen is best for pushing air over a bike at 200+ miles-per-hour?

I feel confident that the OEM windscreen on a 14R is low profile and smooth enough to do the trick, but sometimes even a larger surface can be more efficient at moving air smoothly.

I'm looking at the Zero Gravity Corsa (PN 24-274-02) for doing some top-speed runs and even leaving it on for sport-touring duty once I've achieved my LSR goal.

I can only speak to the Corsa screen vs. the stock screen. I'm 6'2" and the stock screen provided too much turbulence at high speed for me so I got the Corsa windscreen through Cblast, based on his review.

So much better for me! Very smooth and quiet, even sitting up there is very little buffeting and it looks gorgeous on the bike. Definitely recommend it if you feel the stock screen doesn't quite cut it for LSR.

I agree with zxhoya, ZG Corsa. I'm 6'2" also and in a full tuck at speed the air is just barely touching my helmet. I also think like zxhoya that it looks great, matches the lines on the bike perfect!

The ZG has, IMHO, just enough extra height to direct airflow over the top to smooth things out. I spend a lot of time doing triple digit runs and have tried several different screens, for my height the Corsa is the best I have found.

The plastic spacers that come on the stock shield for some reason didn't fit my Corsa, holes were a little to small. Figured I had two options, enlarge the holes or buy some rubber gromets that would fit, I chose the gromets. I don't remember the size but bought them at the hardware store in the electrical section and they worked perfect!

I can't see hitting 200 being an issue for a 14R. Even bone stock my bike pulled right to top speed like nothing. It's just like the videos on youtube. Today, hitting 194 same thing. I can't image dropping to a 41 or 40 preventing her from running right to the rev limiter either, that would have to be all there is to get to 200. If it was struggling to get to rev limit at 186 I could really see 200 being a problem. It's just not...not at all. It'll do 186 as easy as it'll do 80 all day long.

I think you're probably right Vic.....I hit 196.4 mph absolutely POUNDING the rev limiter in 6th with Cblasts flash. Since then I have installed a 40t rear sprocket which is down 2 from the OEM 42t. She also has a marginally taller rear tire simply because it's a brand new PR4 and the 196.4 run was on a half-worn out OEM Metzler M5.

I still like the looks of the smoked Corsa windscreen....is Cblast still a vendor for Zero Gravity??

Come to think of it, I sent him a PM a few days ago and never heard back...

I've run both the Marc 1 and the Corsa from ZG, in addition to the stock unit.

The stock unit performs admirably. While ultimately not up to the task of displacing large amounts of air, it works well for day-to-day riding.

The Marc 1, while good looking, was essentially useless for me. The constant wind blast made sustained high-speed riding in anything other than a centered tuck tiresome.

The Corsa is where it's at, for me at least. I'm 5'10" and 240, so getting all my bulk behind the screen is tough. With the Corsa I get coverage even with a large tank bag. You still need a bit of tuck to get completely out of the wind, but standard riding position is comfortable for 120mph+ sustained touring.

Oddly, one of the biggest influences for me is the gear I wear. When I'm in my touring getup (Alpinestars Bogota) I find that I have more turbulence behind my head. The buffeting is nearly intolerable. Once I switch to my street leathers with a built-in speed hump, the buffeting is eliminated and the entire flow over the bike is considerably smoothed. Obviously having a speed hump on the jacket isn't for everyone, but it's something to consider if you like banging out 200mph runs.

Interesting. I use a ZG Dubble Bubble and it keeps me out of the blast. I am 6'4" @ 250. I try to not let the bike pop above 80mph too often, but sometimes.............well, I'll just leave it at that..ZG Dubble Bubble

Sent an email to Cblast, just waiting for a second reply. Man this guy must be busy this spring...!!

It sounds like you guys have had good luck with ZG windscreens, the Corsa especially. I'm pretty sure that's the one I'm gonna go with in light smoke color.
