Exhaust 4-2-1 vs 4-2-2 performance
01/24/16 12:37 AM

I can find plenty info/postings on the performance gains when changing from stock exhaust to 4-2-1 (or 4-1) but not much (actually nothing) on 4-2-2 or 4-2.

Has anyone compared the difference between aftermarket 4-2 (also incl std headers with cats removed and aftermarket slip ons) vs 4-1 n terms of performance?
Weight difference I obviously understand. I just like the look of the evenness of an exhaust on both sides and the sound is deeper. Is there a big difference in performance?

Obviously Kawasaki must have had a reason to put two exhausts and not one from the word go.

For what its worth ...

When I got my '14 14R tuned/flashed the guy told me the best 4-1 setups were producing ~207-210 Hp depending on the dyno and the stock header w/ Yoshi R77 slips, which I went with, were producing ~203 Hp. If you looks at Brook's site, his full set up has data and seems to be the highest power producer.

Where I live in CA, the aftermarket cans are illegal as are the headers, so I decided to only change the cans assuming when I got stopped and popped for illegal cans it would be a simple fix-it ticket to put the stock cans back on and clear the ticket.

On my '06 I preferred the look of the single system, on the 14R I prefer the look of the dual Yoshi R77 cans.

IMO, the LH side does look a little blank without the muffler. Ad a few bling accouterments and it looks fine

Probably safe to just go by whatever you prefer as far as looks and sound. When it comes to slightly less weight vs. (possibly) a tad more power (2-3?) it's at best going to be a wash as far as acceleration. OVerall I'd give the edge to single sided if someone was really serious about things.

I'd say the fact that no serious racer, drag or LSR, runs 4-2-2... should answer your question.

Scroll down to the 3rd dyno chart:

http://www.ivansperformanceproducts.com/12zx142.htm

"Identical results can be obtained with Akrapovic's dual exhaust setup as well."

The Akro is a 4 into 1 into 2, not a 4 into 2 into 2 that you were asking about.
I'm guessing you are looking for a dual muffler comparison.
Hope this helps.

I called Ivan a while back and we talked about the full system options. He told me that the Duals Akrapovic system is louder than the single. It's also more expensive and heavier. I'm going with the single.
