ZX-14 Samco Performance Silicone Cooling Hoses
07/31/14 5:30 AM

Hello ZX-14 Owners

My name is James and I work for the main distributor for Samco Sport Silicone Hoses.

We are currently looking for a donor to send an OEM original set of standard fit rubber cooling hoses to us so we can develop a performance silicone hose kit for the ZX14 to be added to our range.

The first person who responds to this message and wants to donate his hoses to us will need to prepare to send their hoses to us and upon receipt of them this end, wait 6 weeks for a silicone hose kit to be developed for their bike.

When the hose kit is made, the donor will receive a Brand New Samco Sport Silicone Hose Kit with clamps free of charge and Samco will keep the rubber hoses for reference.

After this I will make a discount code for all existing members for 15% off of any hose kit!

Who's interested!?

Many Thanks
James

I'll do it.

Bike is already defaired. I was going to remove the radiator as well.

James, all of my water hoses and tubes are original factory installed for the Gen1 2008 ZX-14 I have owned since new. Is this the bike you want to make up hoses for? As you may know, the 2012-present Gen2 ZX-14r has a different engine and radiator so the hoses are not the same.

I can have all of my water hoses and tubes removed by end of this weekend, August 3.

EDIT: Looks like the Aprillia up there also has airbox/fuel tank breather hoses. Do you need those as well (I hope!)?

They'd be going on this bike. You're welcome to use any images if you like. I'd def get pics of the bike with fairing s off.

"Tsukigi." It's a couple pounds heavier than a Brocks but I like it. The Ohlins and the hugger are photoshopped. This is a little mockup for the future. I'm painting the engine covers now. You can see I plan to go with orange radiator hoses......if James will come back and reply on this thread, that might be a reality very soon. Guess I should try to PM him.

Hi Daron

It’s James who posted on the forum, apologies for the delay in reply, I have been away.

What I would need you to do is remove all of the cooling hoses and send them to me by a tracked postal service with each hose marked up or labeled where it goes on the motorcycle. Once received the development process will take at least 6 weeks before the first ready set will be available to send to you, which Samco will make in the colour of your choice and dispatch to you free of charge in replacement for the OEM original rubber hoses you will be donating.

Would you be happy to go ahead with this lead time and arrangement?

Thanks

James ####

Well unless someone else beat me too it, they must think the 1st and 2 gens are the same.. ??

As I got a different response than you Rook....

Hello Herb

Thanks for the message.

We are looking to produce the hose sets as soon as possible, however if it
comes to this time and we still haven't developed the hose kit, then we will
be in touch.

Either way, if a Samco Sport hose kit becomes available for the new ZX14 in
the meantime, we will still do you a discount on the hose set as thanks for
your interest.

Best Regards

Oh, just you wait until you see my Samco race orange, high performance, silicone hoses on my 14!

06blackpearl, I've been interested in these for over a year but they were not available for the 14. The Gen1 has been out long enough that some of them should think about replacing all the rubber parts. The SM specs the coolant hoses to be replaced after 3 years or 24000 miles. My hoses are in good shape but they have gone twice the distance Kaw recomends. I doubt many people change the hoses as often as is suggested by the manufacturer. Samco probably wouldn't sell too many hoses for bikes that are less than 5 years old. WHo knows? Maybe the Gen1 hoses will work for the Gen2 as well. I'll post pics so you can see what hoses are on the Gen 1 and where they connect to the motor. I can also measure for you if you want. If the length/shape of the Gen2 hoses are different than the Gen1, a small flex in a hose should not be a bad thing as long as the i.d. is the same.

You Can see the main return hose through the right side fairing vent hole. Check out my pic, second post on this thread. Other than that, you would have to look pretty close to catch a glimpse of a hose. I'm painting my engine covers including stator, timing rotor and cylinder head cover. Nobody sees those either. I guarantee you, I will also have blue spark plug wires held in brackets on the head cover some day. It's what she looks like undressed that counts here. This is the fishnet stockings and a garter belt under the business attire. Also, it's time to change hoses. I almost never replace anything with OEM if there is a high performance aftermarket part available.

WHY SAMCO?

James, I thought this might help with your research.

The 2006-2011 have all the same part #s
2006
2007
2008
2011

2012-2014 Looks like all the same hoses except for the overflow from the reservoir bottle.
2012

Google "ZX-14 water pipes" for any year you want or search on Bike Bandit for all the years in between. I'm tellin ya, dude, the water hoses are all the same for the Gen1, 2006-2011 and looks very much like they are also the same for the Gen2, 2012-2014. You'll cover all those years with one set of hoses. I'll bet money the ZZR-14s have identical hoses to the ZX-14.

waiting to send my hoses in....

Can anyone out there answer this for me? Why does the 08 service manual show a short inlet hose on the RH side...

...and the 06 service manual shows a long V shaped hose?

I have the longer hose on my 08 but that is not what the SM indicates I should have.

Does anyone out there have/had the shorter inlet hose on their Gen1?

Samco needs to be certain I have the proper hoses before they set about copying them.

2nd gen ~ Top pic = pg. 7-38.
1st gen ~ Bottom pic = pg. 17-6.

You pulled two different gen parts pages.

Online diagrams show long hose for 06-07. Short hose for 08-14.

OH, I see I mis labeled them. I will go back and change that. The 08 is the top one.

Wellllll....that explains it. Damn, they gave me an 06-07 water hose on my 08! Now that you mention it, I think I noticed that in one of the pics on the old forum back when I first bought the bike.

Apparently either hose works. I can't see Samco making two sets of hoses to match the same engine (the 08-11 was NOT really a new gen, just a few minor updates).

I think the longer hose looks better. The shorter hose would loose a few ounces of weight with less coolant and less rubber. I guess I would suggest considering making the shorter hose, James. It looks like that is the same one that goes on the 2012-2014 and it would also work for 06-11. Sorry, you'd have to get a short hose from somewhere else. I'd be happy to install it on my bike though, in place of the long hose.

BTW, Hub, anyone, can you verify from a visual that the 2012-2014 hoses are the same as the 2008-2011? I will post pics of all of my 08 hoses if necessary. 08-14 all look the same from the parts diagrams except the overflow tube to the reservoir.

On the 12 the overflow tube is soft. As in flexible, not a molded shape. Same deal with the one from the bottle to the radiator neck. I have the bike all apart and the reservoir and lines are off if you need some pics or measurements.

damn, misssed your most recent post fatsix. I believe the small tubes to / from the reservoir are more or less flexible straight tubes on my bike as well. They have a couple crooks molded into them but the illustrations show a lot more bends in the tubes than they actually have. They are probably trying to show the path of the hose rather than its actual appearance when removed.

SAMCO is planning to market a set of hoses for the 06-07 ZX-14 as well as the 08-12. Is anyone willing to donate that shorter top right hose from their 08-12? It is circled in blue on the parts diagram above and its hose clamp is labeled, (9).

Looks like they got 'em for $259 and as expected, same hoses for the Gen1 14 and the Gen2 14R. I'll prolly get a set some day. LOL, they went with the longer V shaped pipe of the 06-07 14 after all! Should work for all years. I think they should have gone with the shorter updated hose but since the longer one will be more visible from outside the fairing, that may more visually apealing. I see they didn't include the small coolant tubes but I bet you can buy the right size of silicone tubing by the foot from Samco to make up your own.
