Custom seat
10/31/17 10:05 AM

Just had my seat re-contoured and recovered by a local shop.
The configuration of the stock seat always pushed me forward into the tank and I never sat on the wide part of the seat. We spent a lot of time in his shop trying different shapes and types of padding.
He added some additional wings to the seat, contoured the seat area where I sit to be concave instead of convex and flattened out the slope to the front so I no longer slide forward.
I have not been able to take a long ride to see how it will work, and with the weather changing, it may be a while. So far, it feels comfortable, but as I am in an entirely new position on the bike, it feels a little strange.

That sounds like what they do with the aftermarket seats you can buy. My Sadlemen seat is more level to the ground and it does alleviate the annoying slide forward effect. I must say, I got used to that after a while but I like the feel of the slightly lower back portion and it helps fit my long torso over the tank without having my face right in the windscreen too. They could have cut it back an inch farther so the back edge was even with the cowl but that might be more space than most want. I plan to cut down a stock seat I have laying around someday. I'm going real low with the back. I think that looks a lot cooler too.

Man that seat looks great ! You'll for sure get that odometer turning. I'm dropping mine off at a shop called Mean City Cycles next week for a memory foam transplant. I'm trying to sell my Sargent's that's really comfortable but I prefer the narrowness of the stock seat.

I am in Northern Colorado. He charged a little less than what it would cost for a Sargent seat.
He made sure the solo seat cowl still fits with no issue.

I'm hoping to still get up in the mountains this month to see if I can move around on the bike when I need to.
For long distance rides, I will be using my Bead Rider seat beads to prevent hot spots.

That's the main complaint I have on the modular sargent, the `12 up cowl doesn't work with it.

Here is my seat wrapped in old leather jacket. It has held up after a few years, but is starting to wrinkle.
