Bestem Hugger
04/25/13 2:04 AM

Here you go Wolfmann.

Recieved my hugger yesterday & firstly I must say how very well it was packaged, no chance of getting damaged.
Even the carton was clearley marked VERY FRAGILE on all sides.
Opened it up & was very happy with the quality & finish of it.
I have seen a couple of other brands & this one leaves them for dead.

I removed the stock chain guard & 2 x screw holes lined up perfectly with the new hugger holes on the LHS.
On the RHS on the hugger there are 2 holes fairly close together which didn't line up with anything but was very close to the bracket that holds the brake line on the swingarm, so I made a small simple bracket that attached them. I also replaced the screw that secures the bracket which holds the brake line on the swingarm with a longer one that goes through long enough to fit new bracket onto.

The whole process only took about 1.5 hrs to complete and I am very very happy with the end result.
Heres a few pics I took along the way, Hope it helps :)

A couple of before pics.

The 2 holes in hugger.

The small bracket I made up.

Bracket fitted to hugger.

Close up of the new hugger bolts and the new longer bracket bolt.

The end result.

Some of the huggers that I've see are not as long as this one. They look good, but do little to keep crap off the tail section. The Bestem hugger seems to be longer, covering more of the tire. Maybe it just looks that way to me. Anyone else see what I'm talking about? I'd get a hugger like this one, especially if it has better than average protection.

Looks good with those c-f cans! My L-P c-f hugger is quite a bit shorter. It'll protect the shock, but the tailpiece is on it's own. I had to make a little bracket for mine, also. You'd think for what they get for these things, it would com complete with hardware.

No Drilling but this bracket thing is making me nervous?

@Danno
I totaly agree with you they should come with hardware, even if they charged an extra couple of dollars, at least give you the option.

@Wolfman
The material for the bracket was just a small piece of galvanised sheet I had lying around the garage.
Was simple to make up then a couple of coats of flat black aerosol.
Here also it is called the ZX14R & thats what I ordered it to fit, but I would say they are a multi fit thing for all models.

Martin61, thanks for posting your rear hugger, man! I plan on ordering one here soon. I just bought their heel guards yesterday to checkout the quality of their material. That looks super sweet dude!

Looks VERY good Martin...you mentioned hardware...the Bestem Hugger I bought for my 14R did come with a bracket and bolt.It is not shaped quite the same as yours.But as always...fit and finish were excellent.I also removed the rear mid brake line wire guide.No loss really...I did have to 'shape'(bend)the two ends of the bracket though to get the correct symmetry/distance from the center line of the tire.No big deal.

I have put it through its paces to try and make it scrape but no scraping anywhere. :)

Martin,

Your Bestem hugger looks well made. Who did you buy it from ? I've seen it directly from Bestem and from Amazon.

I was about to order a blue ERMAX hugger to match my bike, but your CF Bestem has me thinking it would look good with my CF slip-ons ! I might as well order Bestem CF heel guards as well as they look way better than the black plasti-dip I sprayed on mine.

Regards, Tom

"I have put it through its paces to try and make it scrape but no scraping anywhere. :)"...it can't scrape....it's attached to the swingarm...and ultimately...the tire.It might maybe catch a rock up under there...but that'd keep going around and out.It is a very nice hugger Martin;)

Thanks Tom

@Grn14
Sorry but I didn't mean that it would scrape the tyre or anything underneith the hugger, but more like something hitting the top of it. I went riding with NeilP and his hugger was getting scraped on the top, I think it was from the grap rails when hitting bumps.
