rear brake flasher
08/01/11 10:24 AM

Has anyone installed an aftermarket adjustable rear brake flasher module on their 14? I did a search here but nothing came up. I was going to order one off ebay but then I realized that the rear taillight is LED and I think I remember something about the flasher having to be different if it's an LED type.

I put a module inline with my brake light that causes it to pulse very fast when I hit either brake, and the pulse slows down (decays) over about 5 seconds, and then goes on solid.

But I left my tail light stock, so don't know what I'd use if it was LED.

However, I just purchased LED turn signal elements for the front turn signals, which bolt into the turn signal assemblies and replace the stock bulb units. Turn signals of course flash, and I don't need any special adapter to make the LED signals work.

I'm wondering if AdMore has something. Their light kit for the Givi v35 side cases implement running lights, turn signals, and brake lights with one bank of LEDs in each case. I guess they do it in the wiring harness' controller.

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I just recently put these on my 2006 Red ZX14 :
http://www.lights.skenedesign.com/P3_Features.shtml

They are programmible for multiple flashes (4 short, 4 long, no flashes, etc). I did not actually do it but I thought about just connecting the stock rear brake light to the opposite side of the P3 module (to the brake wire) and then I believe tha the P3 lights AND the stock tail light would flash at the same rate. Right now it's just the P3's that flash when I hit the brakes.

I love these lights. THey just recently added the blinker ability, so I got those so now I have the stock yellow flashers, and then the bright red P3's as well.

I'm about to upgrade my stock yellows to LED yellows and swap out the flasher module (or whatever the heck it's called) to make the LED's flash at a normal rate.

I also added a set of ClearWater Glenda LED lights to my lower forks and upgraded my lowbeams to Xtreme HID 4300's which are WAY brighter than stock and easy to install.

Anyway - I didn't really answer your question, but I believe if you wanted to go one more step (getting the P3's) you could make the stocker flash as well if you were so inclined.

The extra LED's tha the P3 gives really lets people see you. I had my wife follow me for a while in the truck and she said it was way easier to see me, and to notice that I was stopping.

I just moved to CA recently and since we can split lanes out here legally (within limits) I decided I wanted the cagers to see me as much as possible. Hence all the lighting upgrades.

Here's what I finally wound up doing with the brake flash unit installation here. I wrote the whole thing up with pictures and video of the finished update. http://jessejames4.blogspot.com/

One of my next projects is the HID Xenon kit but I don't know which one to buy. I read that there are a big difference in the quality from generic to name brand.

We are not allowed to split lanes in Connecticut. Yet. We are so far behind California in a lot of ways.

Jesse

Correction:
My tail light is stock so it's the two bulbs, not LED's which I assumed it was.

I think the manual thinks they're LEDS as well...."if even one LED goes out, replace the whole unit".....I don't think our stock rear taillamps are bulbs?
