Givi Bags
02/17/09 3:27 PM

I have heard a few things about these on the 14..... First I heard that you need to cut plastics to install, then I heard no, and I have also heard that they are made for the European ZZR version of the ZX14 and that you need to modify the mounting bracket if you have a ZX model, and then I was reading on another forum that the brackets were failing when you modify them.... something to do with mounting the bracket to the grab handle bolts, which the Zx does not have.... just wondering if these are rumors or if it is just a bolt on no hassle system.... also wondering if the brackets are easy to take off when not using the bags cause lets be real this is a sport bike!!! LOL thanks guys.....

Try these guys check the SW MOTECH racks and the GIVI bags.
The MOTECH racks mostly are removable so as not to be noticeable when not used.

I have installed the Givi bags with the Givi rack. It needs the grab rail to be in place. The whole thing installs in about 1/2 hour with very few tools and no cutting required so it is completely reversable. The result is neat, teh bags are as close as the body work allows. The racks do not quick release like the SW MOTECH. The result is a snug fitting setup with no play or flex. I've been using Givi for 20 years and am always happy with their products.

I was aware of the SW MOTECH option but I have little need to remove the racks. I also feel that more joints provides more opportunity for flex and free play. Also no cutting is required. I think with the SW MOTECH kit some cutting is required underneath the rear bodywork, right beside the fender. I watched a twistedthrottle.com video of the install. Not too hard but I don't want to cut it.

I bought the Australian model (no grab rail). I want to take my kids for a spin occasionally so I bought the grab rail kit. It installs in about 5 minutes and is necessary for the Givi kit.

When money permits I will be getting a Givi top box mount custom made. I don't like the one from twisted throttle as the whole assembly cantilevers from the rear of the bike which is a recipe for trouble. I did this with a previous bike and the combination of load, pillion and vibrations snapped the sub frame clean off the bike. I had a professional frame engineer repair and correctly brace the kit. I then had him install a custom mount on my 98 R1 and it still works today. He does a very neat and discrete install.

I took photos of the install although it is pretty straight forward. I've been off the spanners for about 15 years so it can't be that hard.

seat cowl or grab rail, you must choose Anakin.
sorry, it's one or the other. It the seat cowl is important for you then maybe the SW MOTECH rack is a better solution. harder to install, must cut plastic, but no grab rail required therefore seat cowl allowed.

I have the Givi Plx Bags with the SW-Motech racks. And the sw-motech top-box rack with sw-motech adapterplate for my givi V46 top box.
There is a little cutting necesary, approx 2x3cm under the rear cowling. not visible at all and the after mount there is no way to see the cutting due to the mount&rubber spacers.

The cut is tiny and underneath on the undertray and no the "bodywork" as such. also it is not in sight even if you took the kit off.

I find theSW Motech rack very good, can be fitted and removed in a few seconds as well.

Good Question! I'd like to know that too. Also, what 4-1 systems fit with the givi bags?

A diff question... Does the motech rack and givi rack hold the bags in the same locations as one another or is one higher than the other?
