Kruz:

Just for grins, I posted a contact on the Yoshimura website suggesting that they might want to send someone here to address your problem.

I got this email back:

If the customer contacted us with the fitment issue on their headers, we would have gladly sent them a shipping label to get the headers
sent in for inspection.

As far as the bung goes, I will need to know the exact year/make/model of the bike to determine if it comes included with the system
or not.

If it does not and the customer would like one installed, we do have bungs here that can be welded on for the customer. We generally
just request that the customer circle the area they wish the bung to be welded to and we take care of the rest from there. The charge
for something like that is usually around $50 for the bung and the labor charges. Thanks!

Lauren must have read your messages, as I didn't provide any information about your problem in my contact to them.

Hope this is helpful. I didn't mean to butt in, but I was trying to get someone at Yoshimura to respond here. It worked with Brock... -bg

Hi Bill, man you got a quick response. Thanks! We checked the exhaust over pretty good during lunch and it looks like a decent enough fit on 2 through 4. 1 is riding just slightly low but no evidence of any leaking. I took it out during lunch and caned it, took it to the red line in first and second and it pulled like a freight train, carried the front wheel all the way to 80 mph in first gear when I set it back down and hit second, more of the same and I barely got it shut down for the turn at the end of the street. Whew! It ran flawlessly this time, pulled like the 14 when I opened it up, no popping or backfiring anywhere this time. Not sure what happened this morning, maybe some garbage on a plug or something. I will continue to ride it and check for exhaust leaks. If I get one I'll pull it off and send it back to Yoshimura for a jig alignment and bung fitment.

Here's one of the original exhust gaskets I saved. You can see the locator tab that prevents rotation in the lower left corner. The shoulders of the gasket butt up against the edges of a recess cut into the exhaust port so it's a good design, the gasket cannot move. You can see the black carbon residue where the OEM pipe flange was slightly larger ID than the gasket. The original flange was just slightly high it looks like but still a decent fit. I got 2 through 4 on the new Yoshi to fit about this well, just a hint of copper showing on the bottom. 1 is riding slightly low and I can see a lttle copper at the top. The copper sealing surface is annealed and very soft, the base material looks like metal but I can crumble it with my finger nail so it's not going to take a lot of abuse. I could try loosening #1 hold down nuts and lightly tapping from the bottom as Bad in Black did to move it further up then retorque but I might crush the gasket in the process. I'll try to get a shot of the installation if I can do it without removing the cowling.
