Engine Coolant Reservoir Removal—Gen1
The coolant reservoir is usually removed to drain engine coolant. As is the case with all plastic parts, be careful not to over-tighten their bolts. The reservoir can crack from over-torquing.

Always let the engine cool sufficiently before removing hoses. There may be pressure inside the cooling system when the coolant is hot.

Do First:
Remove Ram Air Covers, Lowers and Side Fairings (see Fairing Removal).

Tools:
8mm socket with an extension
non-permanent thread locking agent

Removal
1. Use an 8mm socket with an extension to remove the two coolant reservoir bolts with washers.

Do not remove the pinkish red residue from the threads of the screws.

If you do not need to completely separate the coolant reservoir from the bike, you can hang it from a string with the hoses still connected as shown below.

2. Tilt the nipple for the inlet hose up to prevent coolant from draining.

Remove the Coolant Inlet Hose from the reservoir (see Water Hose Removal, Hose AB, Coolant Reservoir inlet, LH side.)

Remove the coolant reservoir with the overflow hose attached.

Installation
3. Install the Coolant Inlet Hose (see Water Hose Removal, Hose AB, Coolant Reservoir Inlet, LH side.) and route the overflow hose properly.

The factory thread locking agent is reusable a few times. If necessary, apply non-permanent thread locking agent to the threads and install the bolts through the mounting holes in the reservoir with washers to the outside of the reservoir.

Torque - Reserve Tank Bolts: 9.8 N·m (1.0 kgf·m, 87 in·lb)

I would go a light on the torque. About 50 inch lbs with thread locking agent should be plenty.

Install Ram Air Covers, Lowers and Side Fairings (see Fairing Removal).
