Service advice

Hey lads. Looking at doing the service on my 06 zx14. Does removing the fuel tank give you better access to the spark plugs. Also, is there anything else that needs to be done when doing the service. Anything that can be removed if it's not needed. Or anything extra that needs to be done. Cheers

The air box/frame runs over the top of the motor like an arch. Removing the fuel tank allows access to the inside of the air box but it does nothing at all for access to the top of the engine.

If you are doing the first valve clearance check, i might suggest removing the throttle bodies to open up more space. You would have to remove the fuel tank to remove throttle bodies. If it's just spark plugs, you don't have to take anything off but the stick coils and wires.

You do not need the heat blanket on the motor or the air box. You do not need the PAIR solenoid but would need block off plates if you take it out permanently. You can also remove the dirt shield / plastic heat shield wings at the top front of the motor. You can remove the LH frame rail but would need to rig up some fasteners for the wiring harness and clutch line. Take the horn and triple tree cover off while you're at it. All together, that's 5 lbs gone.

I have tutorials with pics on all of this. Let me know if you want me to reload pics.

2yr service intervals:
Fr/RR brake fluids change.
Coolant drop and refilled.
Spark plugs... Spark stick slot in engine booty cover to gain access to plugs. No tank or booty needed to remove.
All fairing and hanger hardware you can reach to check tightness... loose drive chain lock nuts, pinch bolts, etc.
Oil and filter change if not changed by mileage, then by every 2 years.
Tire/chain inspection lube and adjust.
Lube lever/pedal pivot pins; via oil spray or hand grease pins via disassembly.
Repack front end steering bearings every 7,500 miles.
All this short of a valve adjust.

VALVE CLEARANCE CHECH AND ADJUSTMENT

This will get you started...to see if you want to go through with it. I think it should be done by 24000 miles but IMO the SM specced interval is shorter than necessary.

Some of the "DO FIRST" links do not have pics but I'll get them back ASAP. If you need them right away just PM me or let me know here.
