new chain and sprockets

Putting on a new EK ZVX3 and Supersprox front and rear cogs. The front sprocket (original, 74K miles) is toast as is the ZVX3 that's coming off (22K miles) But laying the old SS rear over the new one, there is barely any wear (52K miles) I can see how they would offer a lifetime guarantee. Anyone need a good used rear sprocket?

Danno, I know this is an old thread. How many miles did you get out of the first drive chain?

The bike had 22,000 on the clock when I got it and the PO had put on a larger rear sprocket to pull him and his wife necessitating a longer chain. He said it was new, so maybe not long before I got it. I shortened that chain with a new rivet master and returned it to stock gearing with a Supersprox rear because the throttle was like a light switch. I replaced that chain with an EK ZVX3 at 52K miles. Replaced that with another just like it at 74K miles along with a new front cog. front. 2000 miles later, I crashed.

I think it was around 22k that I changed my OEM sprockets and chain. The chain stretch I measured seemed to be very close to the service limit. IDK how many more miles it would have lasted but I was still adjusting the tension at least one time per season. The rear sprocket showed some wear but still useable. The front sprocket had more pronounced wear and did not seem as though it would have made any sense to try to use it any longer. This was on my 2008 ZX-14.

zx1441r: You will need to phrase your request for help MUCH better to actually get any help. You have basically just said that your drivetrain is showing slip under hard acceleration and you want "help"! You need to do MUCH better on some preliminary diagnostics yourself FIRST before anyone can actually help you:

- How much slack is in the chain? (the owners manual tells you how to measure this correctly)

- Are tips of the teeth on your rear sprocket FLAT or are they POINTED? (Flat means not badly worn, while pointed means VERY badly worn)

- How many miles on the chain? (i.e. Is this the OEM chain or have you already previously previously replaced it because of your hard riding style)

- What kind of maintenance have you been doing on the chain?

The above very basic diagnostics MUST be done before anyone can tell you whether the problem is the chain, sprockets, or clutch.

And what kind of help are you asking for and expecting? If "how to fix it", that is all available to you in a combination of owners manual, service manual, prior postings on this forum, and even Google and YouTube. No one on the forum is going to be able or willing to do the repairs FOR you. That's going to need to be YOU or your local motorcycle shop!

"Engine is slipping when accelerating hard in 5 gear"...check bleeding on clutch line.If still persists, check clutch pack for worn fibers.Excessive heat damage.MAYBE a new set of stronger springs, clutch pack is needed.Nothing to do with chain/drive.

Engine is slipping when accelerating hard in 5 gear.

If you mean the engine is slipping like--the rpm soars when you open the throttle hard but the bike does not accelerate, that is the clutch slipping. Do what Grn said above. Also if you went to an aftermarket lever recently, try reinstalling the OEM clutch lever. My Pazzo lever caused my clutch to remain partially disengaged at all times. I don't know if that was a problem with the lever or if I installed it poorly. The OEM has been working fine for me after reinstalling it.

If you mean your chain is slipping---holy crap man, change those sprockets, tighten that chain or do something!!!

I think I can say pretty confidently...it aint the drivetrain slippin.Sprocket teeth THAT worn would be REALLY clear to identify!Wouldn't be simply happening in 5th either.

Supersprox looks to have a SPX drive chain they sell. Anyone know anything about it?
